A number of newspapers in the United Kingdom have printed reports suggesting that the Ghanan Football Association will sue Marítimo's new manager Mariano Barreto for €10 Million compensation after leaving his post as head coach of the Ghanan national team earlier this month. The following article is from the Glasgow Evening Times:

MARÍTIMO manager Mariano Barreto has been hit with a massive blow as he prepares his players for their trip to Ibrox next week.  The coach - who masterminded his team to a 1-0 victory over Alex McLeish's men last week in the UEFA Cup - has off-the-field problems to contend with as the return tie approaches.

Barreto is being sued by his former employers Ghana for €10 Million which has caused huge problems for the Portuguese club. The Ghana Football Association are demanding compensation after the highly-rated coach walked out to take over Marítimo. Barreto had a three-year contract with the GFA and chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has launched a scathing

attack on his conduct.

He said: "His action, which constitutes a breach of contract, has caused an irreparable loss." Failure to progress to the next round would almost certainly end McLeish's reign as manager of the Ibrox club, so this distraction could benefit Rangers.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Manduca was Marítimo's match-winner again last night as Rangers' Uefa Cup opponents won 1-0 at Sporting. Manduca's 12th-minute goal lifted Marítimo to fifth place in the Portuguese Superliga. Although facing 10 men after the break, it was another impressive performance from the UEFA Cup competitors.

And Barreto is already warning his men can perform just as well against Rangers to continue their fine form in the opening weeks of this season.
