Brazilian striker Pena became Marítimo's final signing before the close of the transfer market yesterday. The former Porto and Sporting Braga is Marítimo's TENTH summer signing, as the club hope for a successful run in this seasons UEFA Cup. In his last year of his contract at Porto, the Brazilian has signed a loan deal until the end of the current season, as part of the transfer deal which saw central defender Pepe sign for the Champions League winners.

The striker was signed by Porto in 2000 as a replacement for fellow Brazilian striker Mário Jardel, who had departed to Turkish club Galatasaray. His first season at the club was a succesful one. Not only was Pena top goalscorer in the Primeira Liga, with22 goals in 29 games, but he also helped Porto win

the Taça de Portugal, beating Marítimo in the final and scoring the first of two goals. Despite a great first season at his new club, Pena never reproduced his great form again and was loaned out to Strasbourg and last season Sporting Braga, where he scored 7 goals in 26 games.

Pena's arrival has added more attacking options to the Marítimo team, but will face competition from other new signings Zumbi and Bibishkov, as well as Brazilians Souza and Rodrigăo, for a starting place up front.

MÁRCIO ABREU LOANED OUT
Following the arrival of Luís Filipe, another loan signing, and already fierce competition with Alan and Joel Santos for the right wing position, it was inevitable that Márcio Abreu would have to search elsewhere for a first team place. Having already rejected an offer from Liga de Honra club Estrela Amadora, the right winger has signed for local Madeiran club Camacha on a one year loan deal.

Márcio Abreu made his Marítimo debut in 2002, but the locally-born player has maily been used as back up for the first team, last season making only 10 appearances.
