Alex is the oldest of six children. Her parents worked several jobs to keep the family above poverty. She has no chance of a social life, but she had all the friends she needed under one roof.

After she caught a surgeons mistake, and decided to take the blame for it. She was not able to practice in the city again. Thats when she took a part-time job at the New York coroners office. It wasnt long before she realized this suited her best. She became to understand the dead victims and needed her to speak for them.
She made her choice to move to Miami when the county of MD approached her was a state-of-the-art facility. It meant moving away from her family.
She is devoted to her team and sees her colleagues as an extension of her family.
Alex is a very emotional person, and often talks to the dead bodies when she examines them.
After her son is named prime suspect in a murder she quits her job and realizes that she needs to spend more time taking care of the living.
