A List of the breeds in the UK & some from USA at the end.

First the Self Cavy                                                             The self cavy is a solid colour all over, its colour must go down to the skin. 

Self Black:                                                                         This cavy should have black eyes, ears & pads, as well as colour down to the skin.  The Self Black has very good type, often not the size of some of the other breeds, competition is intense. It should have a shiny glossy coat.

Self Chocolate                                                                     The chocolate cavy has a rich chocolate colour down to skin & chocolate ears & pads.  It has dark ruby eyes.  Chocolates are not as typy as the Self Black, but often get much larger, some strains are smaller, through inbreeding for colour.  Two photos shown of the chocolate cavy

Self Lilac                                                                                The Lilac is a genetically a Pink eyed Black!!  This is because the gene that gives the pink eye, also diluted Black to Lilac,  it should be a medium Dove colour, down to skin, pink ears & pads & pink eyes, no hint of ruby.  They have normally good size, & reasonable type. Shown is Buster one of my first cavies. 

Self Beige                                                                               The Beige is the Pink eyed version of the Self Chocolate, due to the same gene that causes the Black to become Lilac.  It should be a medium Beige colour, down to skin, pinky beige ears, pads & pink eyes, no hint of ruby. They have a better type in general than the Self Choclate and good size. Shown is a good show type sow.

Self Red                                                                                A rich Mahogany Red, the darker the better, with eveness of colour, babies are born darker, as with all but the Black & White Selfs.  They in general are highly strung, they have poorer type than the other self cavies, the eyes must be dark ruby, ears & pads must be dark reddy brown.
