Rating: PG
Pairing/Character: Gen/Yoshi, Toshimori, Tokine

It's not exactly a revelation so much as a moment of "Oh, huh, I'm kind of a retard, aren't I?" for Yoshi while Gen's trying to shove him away ("No hugs!") - because, seriously, they've been arguing and fighting and having decidedly manly moments and it kind of just suddenly strikes Yoshi that it's kind of been like weeks of tentative, violent flirting.

Huh.

So he waits, because seriously, he did the self awareness thing, which is already pretty good of him, so clearly, it's Gen's turn to not be an idiot.

Strangely, Gen never gets the message, though he does seem to get a little bit concerned about the irritable, flat looks that Yoshi keeps giving him.

"Are you - um." Gen pauses and shifts uncomfortably, and Yoshi kind of sympathizes, because there are lines that they are dangerously close to crossing and that's sort of frightening.

Except not really, because Yoshi's already leaped over those, and he's kind of just waiting for Gen to follow. He glares. "Yes."

Gen looks confused and annoyed. "I haven't asked my question yet," he grumbles.

Yoshi avoids him for two weeks. Or it's the other way around, or it's just a combination of the two of them working so hard not to be around each other that they manage not to see each other. Not even once.

"You're pouting." Tokine points out to him.

"I am not." Yoshi mutters, and absolutely does not pout.

"You're doing it now!"

"I don't want talk to you anymore," Yoshi decides, and stomps away. Away from the school, where he spends all his time sleeping on the roof anyway - except, he doesn't anymore, since technically his old sleeping spot has become their sleeping spot, and that's somehow very significant, and seriously, if Yoshi was bright enough to figure this out, why can't that guy?

So Yoshi hides on the roof of some other random building instead. It's not the same though, so Yoshi can't just drift off like he usually does - which, it turns out, is just as well.

His eyes open when something blocks the sun over his body. "Gen," Yoshi says, surprised. Then: "Why the hell do you have a bouquet of flowers?"

Gen looks supremely uncomfortable. "Uh, hi." He scuffs his toe against the floor, and then sort of... gestures in Yoshi's direction with the flowers. "Sorry?" he offers.

Yoshi stares. "Gen," he says slowly, clearly, "I am not a girl."

It's pretty funny to watch Gen's entire face turn red. "I know that," Gen snaps, and then mutters something under his breath. Yoshi wants to ask him could he please repeat that, some of us don't have supersonic hearing, thank you very much, but Gen raises his voice to say, embarrassed, "I don't know - I asked Tokine - but she's a girl -" He stops, and gives Yoshi a helpless look.

Yoshi feels kind of bad. "Why didn't you just ask me?" he asks curiously.

Huh, if Gen gets any redder, he's going to turn purple. "I don't know," he mumbles unhappily, "I don't know anything about - about this." He waves his arm around - kind of flails it, actually, to indicate "this" and it's a good thing Yoshi is pretty awesome at Gen-speak, because anyone else would just be baffled.

"Yeah, whatever, you're an idiot," Yoshi says, and Gen balks.

"I'm the idiot? Look who's talking, idiot." Gen snaps automatically, and promptly turns white in horror.

Yoshi grins, effectively stalling the apology that he sees forming. "Aw," he says, "You say the sweetest things." Gen relaxes, and Yoshi's grin grows wider.

"So-" Gen starts, and oh my God, is he going to try to talk about it? Lines, man, lines!

"Naptime," Yoshi announces, and rolls over and begins to snore.

Later that day, Yoshi arrives home with the memory of a warm body at his back and a ginormous new vase for his flowers.

"Somebody got you flowers, onii-chan?" Toshimori asks, disbelievingly.

"I resent that," Yoshi sniffs, bops his little brother on the head, and then heads to his room.

Life is good.
