The Braves won 15 straight games, before losing to Los Angeles on May 3. During the streak they had their first 9-0 homestand ever. The 15 game win streak was the longest in MLB since 1991. They also swept a series from the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres during this streak .
Andres Galarraga is Back
Andres Galarraga is back playing for the Braves after his yearlong battle with cancer. He seems to be in good health and excellent shape. He will be a big help for the Braves with his big bat and his uplifting attitude.
John Rocker's Punishment Reduced
John Rocker's punishment was reduced by a baseball arbitrator. He is allowed to report to spring training, but will miss the first 14 days of the regular season. His fine was also reduced to $500. After his recent interview with Sports Illustrated in which he made racist and prejudice comments, Major League Baseball had fined Rocker $20,000, suspended him until May 1 (all of preseason and 28 days in the regualar season) and has ordered him to undergo sensitivity training. Rocker gave a written apology to media, but answered no questions. He also apologized to the clubhouse to try to make amends with the team.
Bret Boone and Ryan Klesko Traded to Padres
Bret Boone, Ryan Klesko and a minor league pitcher, Jason Shiell were traded to the San Diego Padres for Wally Joyner, Quilvio Veras, and Reggie Sanders. Hopefully the Braves will benefit from this trade.
Could Alex Rodriguez be Playing in Atlanta Next Year?
With Ken Griffey Jr. now playing in Cincinnati, Braves fans can now hope that the Braves might try to trade for Alex Rodriguez instead. The Braves were supposedly Griffey's top choice, but they turned him down in hopes of getting Alex Rodriguez instead. Hopefully, this strategy will turn out good for the Braves.
