Hakeem Olajuwon scored 20 points and the Houston Rockets capitalized on a key second-quarter run to post a 98-92 victory over the Orlando Magic in the exhibition opener for both clubs.

Olajuwon had 14 of his points in the first half as the Rockets turned a 25-20 first quarter deficit into a 52-39 lead at halftime.

Clyde Drexler had 15 points and Charles Barkley added 11 and nine rebounds for the Rockets.

The Magic were led by Penny Hardaway's 18 points. Derek Harper, acquired in the offseason from the Dallas Mavericks added 15 points and Brian Evans finished with 14 and eight rebounds for the Magic. Orlando outscored the Rockets 35-19 in the fourth quarter to make the final score respectable.

The game marked the debut of Orlando coach Chuck Daly, who agreed to a three-year contract in the offseason. The 66-year-old Daly has not coached since he left the New Jersey Nets after the 1993-94 season.
