FOCUS: Post Drills / Protecting The Post During Wrap Arounds

BEST DONE WITH 3 OR MORE NETS AND GOALIES

INTRODUCTION:

Another drill to keep a large group busy. Drill works on goalie post to post movement in goal as the player skates behind and around his goal net. Stress quick side steps, skate is pushed against the inside of the post to prevent puck from slipping past him. Stick at slight angle and not where the puck can deflect off it and into the net.

SETUP:

1 group of players at side of net with pucks as per diagram. 2 or 3 goal nets set up about 15 feet apart. Nets all facing same direction.

METHOD:

First round for each player NO PUCKS. Second round one player skates around goal net with puck while goalie protects post. As puckcarrier reaches second net next player in line starts.

The first player shoots at the last goalie you have set up in the drill. The puckcarriers can practice wrap arounds or shoot from in front.

After 2 rounds change goalies so they all have a chance receiving shots. To end the drill allow the puckcarriers to shoot on the goalie of their choice to keep the goalies interested and on their toes.
