TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

RATED: R- STRONG VIOLENCE/GORE, LANGUAGE, AND DRUG CONTENT
Set in 1973, in Texas, this is a remake of the 1974 horror classic is based on the murders conducted by Ed Gein, who dismembered, ate, and wore the skins of his victims.   When a five twenty-something guys and gals go on a road trip, it goes horribly wrong.  As they exit Mexico and enter Texas, they encounter what would be the worst and final day of their lives.  Now, it’s one of those clichéd Dead Teenager Flicks that tests your attention span, asking you if you can watch the rest without vomiting.
With the success of movies like
Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre seems to get trampled over with all the gore and blood and chopped-off limbs.  The film is topped off with a score of screams, and loud noises that are the only hopes of scaring you (unless you’re squeamish).
Now, if you were to ask me, I’d say that rounding up actors with no talent is a mistake.  I thought, by now, that would be blatant to most filmmakers.  The cast consists of Jessica Biel, Jonathan Tucker, Eric Balfour and some others, whose presence in the film only make the blood and gore all the more ugly.  The only real actor in this film is one of my favorites, R. Lee Ermy.
However, this film did have some potential.  The creepy cinematography and visually spectacular lighting may have an effect on some viewers (although I’m not sure anyone is going see this film solely for the camera work).
So if you’re not in the mood for some ‘nock-your-socks-off’ screams, gore, and bad acting, don’t see this film.  But as I said it had some ‘okay’ parts, however it is an ugly and gruesome horror movie that failed to scare me. And because of this
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre rates ***.
