When “Meet the Parents” arrived on the scene in 2000, a perfect duo was created.  Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson have become one of the best comic teams in Hollywood.  Since “Meet the Parents”, Wilson and Stiller have starred in “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Zoolander”.  Now comes “Starsky and Hutch”, their fourth collaboration with each other.
Speaking of Ben Stiller, how many movies has he made lately?  Earlier this year he starred in “Along Came Polly” and “Duplex”, and soon to come is Barry Levinson’s “Envy”, and later this year “Doge ball” will come out.  That’s five movies back to back.  Well, this is not likely to be the best.
The hilarity that comes from the Stiller/Wilson team is unmistakably laughable.  Just looking that the attire chosen for this film makes you laugh.  Especially the clothes that Snoop Dogg is clad in for the role of Huggy Bear.  However the best comic feel comes from the small roles.  For example, Will Ferrell.       His dignity has to be shot after making this film.  He plays convicted felon in prison, and during interrogation, refuses to answer any questions until Starsky and Hutch do “the dragon”.  This scene easily makes for the biggest laugh of the year thus far.
However, the film didn’t seem to be as funny as anticipated.  It isn’t a disappointment because it’s still and very film.  Around every corner there is something to chuckle at, but chuckle is about it (other than “the dragon”).
With Todd Phillips behind the camera on a flick like this, you basically can’t go horribly wrong. And that effort immensely compensates for previous comical mistakes.  But whatever you think, you’re likely to leave the theatre totally satisfied.  I'm just fine with that.  ***
