  "A" DIVISION

Oct 15     Agrospray  5     Re/Max  2
Andrew Jacko sends one up the middle to a streaking Adam Thomson who starts the league off with a pretty deke on the kid from down under. The opportunistic Jeff Lockey nets a couple and Matt Fallowfield was solid as Agro lived up to expectations.  There will be some terrific games ahead between these 2 teams.

Dynamic Paintware  5     Fody's  3
Jeff White led the attack with a pair of goals and Craig Pitter made several clutch saves in this wide-open affair.

Oct 19
Fody's  7     Re/Max  6
The "boy from down under" was a bit unsteady, still suffering from the effects of his trip to Australia.  If Coach Parrott hadn't have been truant so often from classes he would have realized that Buchner needed more time for his body to readjust to the northern hemisphere. As explained in Geography 101 - Freely moving objects on the surface of the Earth experience a Coriolis force, and appear to veer to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern. Poor Boogie was veering left and right all night.
Kevin Harrop led Fody's with a 3-goal night and Freddie held in there for the win.
Tim Tripp had 2 assists.

Agrospray  9     Dynamic Paintware  5
A lot of firepower on this Agro team.  Shane Balcomb led the way with 3 and Derek Partlo and Jeff Whiteside added 2 each.  Jeff White scored 3 in reply for the News and Bratley VanPuymbroeck had a big night with 5 points.  The News did well to get 5 past Fallowfield as this Agro team will be tough to beat.

Oct 26
Agrospray  6     Fody's  1
Team Fody gave it a good effort but Fallowfield turned almost everything away allowing Agro to cruise by with another big win.

Dynamic  Paintware  6     Re/Max  5
A wild ending with 3 goals in the last minute of play. Crafty Jeff White scored 4 for the News and he was hoping that would be enough. The News led 4-2 but Re/Max came back to tie it then moved ahead on a powerplay goal by Mike Ryksen with 42 seconds left. Adam Mueller kept the News alive with a goal at the 34 second mark and the ever-hustling Jason Lessif scored the winner with 20 seconds on the clock.

Oct 29
Dynamic Paintware  8     Fody's  5
Spare Phil Durham opens with a pair to give Fody's the early lead but they fold as the News replies with 3 of a kind from Gary Markus and Kevin Ryksen. When I was a kid 5 goals was enough to win a hockey game. Coach Fody will be diagramming the penalty kill for next week.

Agrospray  6     Re/Max  4
A valiant effort by Re/Max who rebounded from a 4-1 deficit to tie the score and make for an exciting game. In spite of the effort coach Parrott is feeling the heat as his troops remain winless. Balcomb records 2 for Agro and Travis Whiteside scores a pair for Re/Max.

Nov 2
Dynamic Paintware  5     Agrospray  4
A determined News team came from behind 3 times to put an end to the silly talk of a perfect season for Agro.  Jay Lessif led the "upset" with a pair of goals and Pitt held off the onslaught late in the game as Agro buzzed the zone looking for the equalizer. The parade has been cancelled.

Re/Max   5     Fody's  3
Parrott was a healthy scratch as previously winless Re/Max shook up the roster in an effort to make a move for a playoff position.  Team leader Scotty White regained his scoring touch with a hat trick and   speedster Trevor Bradfield had 2 key goals, including the winner, to get this underachieving team back on track.

Nov 9
Dynamic  Paintware  6     Re/Max  3
Kevin Ryksen leads the way with a natural hat trick for the team with a new name.  The newspaper has dropped it's sponsorship but Sean Orpen has stepped up to the plate with his Dynamic Paintware business.

Agrospray  5     Fody's  4
An excellent hockey game in which team Fody went goal-for-goal with Agro until the late going.  Two counters from Shane Balcomb on setups from the Dekester.

Nov 12
Agrospray  6     Re/Max  2
Adam Thomson opened it up with a pair in the first and Shane Balcomb did more damage with a couple in the second to overpower Re/Max and their sparelist.

Dynamic Paintware  7     Fody's  4
With Craig Pitter on top of his game, Team Dynamic hangs tough with Agro in first place.  Spare Phil Durham does the hat dance to to become a coveted free agent.  Re/Max is in negotiations and Coach Fody has been warned about tampering.

Nov 16
Re/Max  8     Fody's  1
Fody's opens then it's all Re/Max - Freddy is still waiting for the new body parts to arrive. Trevor Lamb, claimed off waivers for a tryout did ok scoring 2 goals and setting one up. Trevor Bradfield and Scotty White had 2 each and hustling Chad Homick (the less famous brother) scored one and set up two in this lopsided affair. Team Fody is recognized for the ESSO Fair Play Award for a penalty-free game.

Agrospray  9     Dynamic Paintware 3
A fast-paced game in which Dynamic held their own over the half but Agro pressed hard to blow this one open for sole possession of first place.  Adam Mueller led Dynamic with 3 helpers. Jeff Whiteside, Shane Balcomb and Brian Bari all had 2 goals each for Agro.

Nov 23
Agrospray  11     Fody's  4
Goaltender wannabe Chris Fody had his dreams squashed as the gunners from Agrospray turned his debut into a nightmare.  Jeff Whiteside scored a natural hat (and one more later for good measure), Shane Balcomb danced a triple and Jeff Bouck and Adam Thomson counted 2 each.  Hard-working Dana Kobayashi scored twice for Fody's.  (another penalty-free game for the green team)

Re/Max  4     Dynamic Paintware  3
Always an excellent game between these 2 evenly-matched teams.  Hustling Eddie Scruton scored the winning goal.

Nov 26
Fody's  10     Dynamic Paintware  8
Dynamic has a 4-2 lead after one but Fody's explodes for eight second period markers to take the win in this offensively-minded game.  Tim Tripp, Trevor Glass and Andrew Hicks led the way with 2 goals each.  Brandon Whitehead had a goal and 3 assists.  Dynamic was led by Scott White who scored a pair while brother Jeff recorded 5 assists and Brad Alexander 3.  Jason Lessif had a goal and 2 helpers.

Re/Max  8     Agrospray  2
Coach Parrott has his team playing some good defensive hockey in this huge win over Agro.  Spare Mark Brazier makes his debut and weaves some old-time magic with Scotty and Eddie to record 2 goals and 3 assists.  Scotty White scores a pair and Eddie Scruton has a 3-point night in this surprising blowout of Agro..

Dec 7
Dynamic Paintware   4     Agrospray  3     (shootout)
A hard-fought game that became a little chippy at times. Agro ties it up after being down 3-1 but Dynamic takes the win in OT and edeges up a little more in the standings. Jeff White slips in the winner and Pit stops 'em all in the shootout.

Re/Max  5     Fody's  1
Scotty White scores three to lead his squad to their 4th straight and send the bookies scrambling. They are such a nice team too - only half the penalties of everyone else - what gives ?

Dec 10
Dynamic Paintware  6     Re/Max  2
An excellent hockey game spoiled by some nonsense that shouldn't have happened.  Dynamic puts an end to their losing streak with a strong performance.

Agrospray  6     Fody's  3
Shane Balcomb leads Agro with 3 goals and 2 assists while hustling Adam Thomson has a 5-point night.

Dec 14
Agrospray  8     Re/Max  4
A close first period but Derek Partlo, playing like a kid again, scores a natural hat in just over 3 minutes to break this one open.  Jeff Whiteside has 2 and Shane Balcomb has a 4-point night.  Trevor Bradfield has 2 plus 2 for Re/Max

Fody's  6     Dynamic Paintware  3
Always nice to see a win for the "greenshirts".  Chris Sanders scores twice and hopefully he is out of his slump. An undisclosed upper body injury has been hampering his production this year.  A solid performance from Freddy in goal.

Leo Ford has opened a skate sharpening business called "Just Edges" in his home at 1 Southridge Road 688-6843

Dec 21
Re/Max  10     Fody's  3
The magic stick of Devin Homick left Freddie spellbound as 4 pucks went whizzing by him.  "Still-hustling-after-all-these-years" Ed Scruton tallied 3 for the hat while coach Parrott had a 5 point night and Scotty White had 4 set-ups in this one-sided affair.

Agrospray  4     Dynamic Paintware  2
Agro dodged a bullet after #1 goalkeeper Matt Fallowfield went down with a lower-body injury.  Fortunately the well-travelled Sean Orpen was in the building and answered the call by playing a period of shutout hockey to preserve the victory.

Dec 28
Fody's  8     Agrospray  5
Spectators were calling this one the "Christmas miracle", especially after Agro had staked themselves to a 4-1 lead.  Fody's came back hard with 5 straight but Agro made it interesting with a seeing-eye goal to get to within one and then send sniper Shane Balcomb on a short-handed breakaway but Freddie didn't blink and that proved to be the TSN turning point as Fody's added a couple more late ones to seal the deal.  We still love you Agro guys but it's hard not to cheer for the underdogs. Trevor Glass led team green with a hat and Brandon Whitehead scored a pair.  Spare Chris Moody had 2 for Agro.

Re/Max  8     Dynamic Paintware  5
Dynamic has the lead 3 times in this seesaw but Re/Max finishes strong with 4 goals in the last 8 minutes as Pit was still digesting that Christmas turkey.  Hustling Eddie and spare Cody Chute both record hat tricks and Scotty White has a 5-point night.  Kevin Ryksen scores 2 for Dynamic.

Jan 4
Dynamic Paintware  6     Fody's  5     (shootout)
Team Fody eased up on the pedal a couple of times and it cost them a point.  Perhaps a lack of experience this year in having leads to protect was a factor as they let a 3-0 first period lead wither to a tie.  Fody's went back to work after the break and made it 5-3 but with under 4 minutes remaining the Dynamic boys rallied again to tie it and force the OT.  Pit was the difference in the shootout and the Dynamic snipers were too hot for Freddie. The ever-hustling Jason Lessif was the player of the game with 3 counters.  Kevin Harrop scored twice for Fody's who have 3 points in their last 2 games.

Agrospray  7     Re/Max  0
After 2 losses in December coach Summers gave his troops a blast and they responded with a whitewash on Re/Max.  Jeff Whiteside led the way with a hat while scoring leader Shane Balcomb added 2 plus 2. Matt Fallowfield looks like he is healthy after tweaking the knee last month. This is the first shutout in 'A' Division (aside from Orpie's one period).  Coach Parrott will be talking to his 'passengers'.

Jan 7
Dynamic Paintware  5     Agrospray  2
Agrospray had a set back this week with the news that their top gun, Shane Balcomb, has been sidelined indefinitely with an undisclosed lower-body injury. Shane is a classy player and we wish him a speedy recovery.  In a game that got a little bumpy and grumpy Dynamic prevailed, led by Jason Lessif and Kevin Ryksen who both scored a pair. Craig Pitter played an excellent game in goal for team red.

Re/Max  5     Fody's  4
A good effort by Fody's but with some of their top players missing they couldn't hold their leads. Kevin Harrop and spare Trevor Lamb both had 4-point nights but a determined Re/Max squad  recovered twice from 2-goal deficits to eke out the win. Two goals by coach Parrott and the winner by the less famous Homick brother did the damage.

Jan 11
Re/Max  6     Dynamic Paintware  4
Re/Max takes the early lead and holds on in this old-time hockey game . Trevor Bradfield scores a pair but the player of the game was Mike Ryksen who dialed in 5 points - this guy is more than just a pretty face.  Bratley VanPuymbroeck scored a pair for Dynamic.

Agrospray  9     Fody's  3
These Agro guys aren't going to lose 2 in a row too often.  Hustling Adam Thomson did the trick as did  sniper Jeff Whiteside.  Brandon Whitehead responded with a pair for Fody's who are sandbagging for the draft.

Jan 18
Agrospray  4     Re/Max  3     (shootout)
Re/Max battles back hard from 3-1 to force the OT but Agro prevails as Matt Fallowfield turns away all 3 shooters.

Dynamic Paintware  7     Fody's  2
Fody's opens but Dynamic responds with 7 straight.  Journeyman Derek Penner steps it up with 2 goals.

Jan 21
Re/Max  6     Fody's  2
Fody's has an early lead and are playing well until they get a powerplay and allow 2 shorthanded goals. Great "special teams" work by Re/Max.  A fast-paced game with no let-up and few penalties.

Dynamic Paintware  4     Agrospray  1
This rugged match has Gary Markus recording the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick".  If you are under 25 try 'Google'.  Interesting to note that Howe, one of the most over-rated players of all time, only had 2 of these.  Brendan Shanahan has 9 "Gordies".  In the future Club Oxford will refer to the goal, assist and fight as a "Shanny".

Jan 25
Agrospray  7     Fody's  5
This one was close as the last Agro goal was an empty-netter.  Chris Sanders scores a pair but Fody's needs to be error-free to beat Agro.  Jeff Whiteside has 3 (for the 3rd time this month) and Shane Balcomb seems to be recovering well with a 4-point night.

Re/Max  4     Dynamic Paintware  1
Eric Lockey opens with a powerplay goal but hardly has time to celebrate as Re/Max comes back to tie it in less than a minute and power through to gain a share of second place.

Feb 4
Dynamic  8     Fody's  5
Fody's catches Dynamic napping and opens up a 4-0 lead but then the tide turns and the paint boys respond with 5 straight. Ryan O'Grady was the story of the night with a natural hat trick in the first and one more for good measure in the second. Spare Darren Swick scored 3 for Dynamic as well.  Chris Sanders had a pair for Fody's.
Two of the Dynamic goals were empty-netters so this one was closer than the score indicates.

Agrospray  4     Re/Max  3
An excellent hockey game that appeared to be headed for overtime until Jeff Whiteside scored his second of the night with under a minute remaining.

Feb 8
Agrospray  5     Dynamic  2
Derek Partlo nets three and Shane Balcomb adds a pair as Agro wins it's third in a row. With these 2 back in the lineup the team is firing on all cylinders once again.

Fody's  6     Re/Max  3
Team Fody has scored 16 times in their last 3 outings.  If they ever figure out how to prevent them they could be a handful in the playoffs.  Trevor Glass leads the way with a triple.

Feb 15
Dynamic  6     Re/Max  3
Jeff White scores 3 to lead Dynamic to a "playoff-preview" win over Re/Max.

Agrospray  5     Fody's  0
Jeff Whiteside scores a pair and Matt Fallowfield is flawless as Agro wins their 4th in a row to send a message to Fody's that they are ready for the post-season.

Feb 18
Agrospray  6     Re/Max  3
Re/Max leads 3 times but can't hold.  Big damage by Adam Thomson who scores 3 in a very cleanly-played contest.  Matt Fallowfield frustrates the Re/Max snipers on many occasions. Agro remains undefeated for the month, building momentum for the second season.

Fody's  5     Dynamic  4     (shootout)
Dynamic has a 3-1 lead but lets off the gas and Kevin Harrop strikes for 2 quick ones to tie it. Dynamic pulls ahead but Trevor Glass forces the OT with his second of the night.  Freddie shakes off some rust to make some key saves in the shootout to keep Fody's at a respectable .500 for the month.

Feb 22
Fody's  7     Re/Max  5
Chris Sanders cranks it up a notch with a 5-point night and Kevin Harrop and Brandon Whitehead continue their stellar play with a pair each as Fody's starts to heat up for the playoffs.  Sniper Chris DeClark is gearing up for the second season as he scored a highlighter for Re/Max.

Dynamic  6     Agrospray  3
Agro had some manpower over on the big rink helping the Thunder to an OT win over Clinton so Dynamic took advantage of the situation.

March 1
Fody's  5     Agrospray  4
Fallowfield gets the night off and backup Shane Balcomb does his acrobatic best but team Fody prevails with their 3rd win in  row.  If the season were based on the last 6 games Fody's would be tied for first.  This team has some momentum going into the playoffs and just may give Agro a good run.

Dynamic  8     Re/Max  7
It must have been quite the Superbowl party because Re/Max hasn't won since January.  Dynamic had their roster depleted by the Derek Cherry 2-fight tourney but still posted a win due to the hustle of 2 enthusiastic minor-league recruits by the names of Matt Stoop and Mike Priem who recorded 2 goals and an assist each.  Butch Alexander, rumoured to be headed for the 'B', stepped it up for a pair of counters and may have his game ready for the playoffs.  Re/Max has to find a way off this dizzy ride before it's too late.

 "B" DIVISION

Oct 19     Copper Mug  3     TVT  2     (shootout)
A close one which hopefully is an indication of parity within the division.  Slammin' Sammy Edwards opened with a revenge goal against his former team then Steve Lavier countered against his old team with one and a set-up to John Cservid as TVT took a brief lead.  Patrick Whitehead tied the game then veteran Mike Stier provided the shootout winner.
Martin's  7     Glass  6
It was looking like a "laugher" as Glass opened up a 6-2 lead.  Mike Schmeltz looked a bit nervous in the early going after being called up from the minors just prior to gametime but he managed to settle in and his team rallied with 5 straight goals in just over 10 minutes.  Rookie Ryan Iovachinni will be breaking down the game film to see what went wrong. Jim Kennedy led Glass with a pair but Doug Falkins tied the game late with his second of the night and Pat Light drove home the winner.

Oct 22   Glass  2     TVT  1
Clayton Stubbs and spare Grant Yarmie get Glass out to a 2-goal lead and it proves to be enough as TVT can only respond with a single from Ron Gasparetto.

Copper Mug  8     Martin's  1
Tim Hantz allowed a goal on the 5th rebound but luckily for him his team was able to score enough for the win.  A sloppy effort by "the Fish" as they passed more often to the other team than their own players.  Spare Dan O'Donnell netted 3 to lead Mug in this shellacking.

Oct 26
Copper Mug  4     Glass  2
Game winner by Brian Beaumont keeps the perfect record intact. Some sharp goaltending by Hantzy makes for a tidy average.

Martin's  5     TVT  3
Pat Light scores 2 and spare Andy Bulloch scores a hatful. Mike Schmeltz plays a solid game in net to improve his chances of landing a full-time job.
Nov 2
Martin's  6     Glass  4
Martin's scored 4 unanswered first-period goals and were set to lock it into cruise control but The Glass boys responded with 3 straight of their own in the second, including an "empty-netter". Note to coach Jammer - don't pull the goalie so early. Elder statesman John Zei knocked it the eventual winner for Martin's. Enforcer Mike Hackney was called up by Glass but Martin's stuck to clean hockey. Hackney adjusted his game and scored a pair of goals.

TVT  3      Copper Mug  1
Previously winless TVT takes undefeated Copper Mug to school. A 2-goal lead is challenged as the Holman gets the Muggers to within one but Orpie holds off the attack and veteran Steve Balazs sends a laser to the shelf in the late-going to kill any hope of a comeback. Rollie makes his move for the "Enforcer" title.
Nov 5
Martin's  5     Copper Mug  3
Spare Brent Iler led Martin's with 2 goals and Mike Martin had 3 assists in a game that got a bit grumpy near the end.  It's only November boys, there is a lot of season left. Lumpy made his debut in goal and played well for the win.

TVT  4     Glass  2
Those little angels of TVT recorded their second penalty-free game and stole 2 points as Steve Lavier led the way with a pair of goals.  I wonder if that fancy one made it to YouTube ?

Nov 9
TVT  3     Martin's  1
Steve Balazs has 2 points to lead TVT.  Orpie lost his bid for a shutout when the opportunistic John Goldner snuck one past with the ol' dive and slide play.  Fools 'em every time.

Copper Mug  2     Glass  1
Hard-luck Glass lets another point slip away with some costly penalties in the later stages of this one.  Damn refs anyhow.

Nov 16
TVT  3     Copper Mug  1
TVT is playing some great defensive hockey and Orpie is posting some unreal numbers as this team sneaks up to the top of the standings with four straight wins. Quick, everybody gang up on TVT.

Glass  8     Martin's  5
The smell of burnt rubber hung in the air as the fishermen got roasted by a shot-happy Glass team.
I'd rather have a happy shot glass but Wayne and the boys spoiled our fun -  led by Marty Maerten and the amazing Chris Galeckas with 2 goals each.  Spare Andrew Hicks had a goal and 3 assists and his control of the play may earn him a shot at "The Show" as several 'A' coaches were scouting.

Nov 19
TVT  5     Glass  3
TVT continues to roll up the wins led on this night by the crafty veteran Cam McKnight who had a goal and 2 assists.  Glass coach is pulling out his hare trying to keep his volatile goaltender under control.

Copper Mug  4     Martin's  3    (shootout)
A good game by goaltender Schmeltzy who deserved a better fate but Hantzy shuts 'em down in the OT .  Matt Gehring led the Mug with a pair while Brian Beaumont had a goal and 2 assists.  Slick Sammy Edwards slid in the winning score.

Nov 23
Copper Mug  1     Glass  0
The Mug rides out Jeff Holman's lone goal with some fine puckstopping by Tim Hantz.  At the other end Ryan Iovacchini maintains his status as the most penalized goalie in southwestern Ontario.

TVT  7     Martin's  2
The puck had eyes for TVT as Cam McKnight continues his red-hot scoring spree with 2 more.  Joel Breddy blasted in a couple and hustling Steve Lavier scored one and set up 3 more.  Sean Lumsden had a goal and an assist for Martin's who still lead in 3 categories - goals for, goals against and penalty minutes.  It's just a little something we can be proud of.
Dec 3
Glass  5     Martin's  3
A close hockey game with good goaltending at both ends.  Schmeltzy made several key saves in the first to allow Martin's to take a 2-1 lead.  Aaron DePaepe was recalled off waivers to replace the ailing Ryan Iovacchini who is suffering from a "lower-body" injury.  Coach Hare refused to elaborate further on the injury only saying that Ryan was less likely to accumulate any more penalty minutes from his seat in the stands.  Aaron played well and frustrated Martin's on several goalmouth plays. Spare Mike Priem wins a free hat and Andrew Hicks has 2 if we count that empty-netter. Doug Falkins makes the highlight reel with a dazzling display that left several Glass players looking for various parts of their equipment. It should be noted that Martin's still leads in 3 categories.

TVT  3     Copper Mug  0
Steve Lavier leads the way with a pair while veteran Sean Orpen puts up the wall to stymie the Mug snipers and record his first shutout of the season.  This goaltending performance is perhaps a bit unsportsmanlike as this team has now won 7 in a row.  Enough already !  The league would like to thank Sean for stepping up to provide sponsorship for a team presently in the 'A' Division which shall be known as "Dynamic Paintware".  If you guys keep winning you will all be playing up there shortly.

Dec 7
Copper Mug  2     Martin's  1
Brian Beaumont has the winner - NOT, unless he can score from his couch at home - it was actually spare Mike Priem, inadvertently left off the gamesheet - Martin's might be filing a protest.

TVT  7     Glass  1
We used to like you guys on TVT but not anymore. Off to the 'A' with ya. "Ovechkin" the spare tallies three. Orpen shows a little bit of sportsmanship by allowing a goal.

Dec 14
TVT  4     Martin's  3     (shootout)
The fishermen let TVT off the hook with an inability to clear the zone that led to the tying goal by TVT with 21 seconds on the clock.  Keeper Mike Schmeltz played well and deserved a win but Sean Orpen stared down all shooters in OT.

Copper Mug  5     Glass  2
Matt Gehring, now in mid-season form, and Derek Simmons each had 2 goals for the Mug.

Dec 17
Copper Mug  5     TVT  0
Well now, finally somebody beat these #%*&#'s.  A stellar performance by Hantzy the goalie to record his second shutout of the season and steal the Vezina lead from Orpie. Matt Gehring goes 2 plus 2 and slammin' Sammy Edwards has a 3-point night as Mug closes the gap to challenge for first place.

Martin's  8     Glass  2
Schmeltzy was having thoughts about a shutout but Jimmy Kennedy put that to rest with a breakaway goal that crossed the line with about three one-millionths of a second left in the first. Lumpy scored twice, including one blast to the shelf that requires super slow-mo on the instant replay. Spare Dave McLean had a good night going 2 plus 2 and Bobby Alexander showed that he can still score.

Leo Ford has opened a skate sharpening business called "Just Edges" in his home at 1 Southridge Road 688-6843

Dec 21
TVT  7     Glass  2
Orange found their goal-scoring sticks again as the veteran Steve Balazs and the fresh-faced rookie Ryan Hambleton each scored a pair.  Orpen was good in goal although he seems to find the 'B' Division shooters more of a challenge.

Copper Mug  6     Martin's  3
A 3-1 lead by Martin's and a good performance by Mike Schmeltz went into the crapper as the boys went fishing for more goals instead of protecting what they had.  Some timely stops by Tim Hantz and 2 goals each from Jeff Holman and spare Mike Priem put the Mug back in control.

Dec 28
Glass  7     Copper Mug  0
Wayne has been very, very good so Santa granted him a Christmas wish.  His team could do no wrong and poor Copper Mug could do no right on this very special night.  And not a discouraging word was heard form Wayne about the refereeing.  They must have got it right for once.

TVT  3     Martin's  1
The red light went on and the timekeeper put it on the clock but when the dust had settled Orpie held his glove up high and the Falkinator lowered his head in disbelief in this big turning point.  Orpie now takes the lead in the Vezina sweepstakes. Hats off to the overall defensive play by team TVT.   It should be noted that Martin's still holds the lead in 4 categories.
Jan 4
Martin's  4     Glass  0
Please be advised that the trade deadline has passed so all offer sheets pertaining to the acquisition of Mike Schmeltz are null and void.  Congratulations, Schmeltzy for 'standing on your head' (and using it to block a few) in earning a well-deserved shutout.  Mike Martin led the attack with 2 goals and a helper.  That 0.00 looked ridiculous anyway, Dave Moore.

Copper Mug  2     TVT  1
Richard Kocheff has the winner in this game that was low on scoring but high on emotion.  Just because you got a lump of coal in the Christmas stocking is no reason to take it out on everyone else, Rollie.  Look on the bright side - you have regained your title as penalty king.

Jan 11
Copper Mug  5     Martin's  1
Spare Brent Iler scores 3 for the Mug as Schmeltzy works on his comedy routine for the Ice Capades.
Never a dull moment.

TVT  3     Glass  2
Sniper Steve Lavier tucks one in the winner with only a few ticks left on the clock as coach Hare was busy filling out his shootout roster.  Paul Marin was the big story, sniping a pair for TVT.

Jan 14
TVT  5     Martin's  0
A lackluster game by Martin's and TVT made them pay.  Two goals from spare Curtis Wray and a great job of goaltending by Dave Moore.

Copper Mug  5     Glass  1
Craig Hantz was within one of a hat trick and brother Tim was one away from a shutout.  Spare Brad Smale also had 2 for the Mug who are not letting TVT out of their sight in the battle for first place.

Jan 18
TVT  3     Copper Mug  0
Spare Steve Craig leads TVT with a pair and the amazing Sean Orpen plays for the shutout and slips his average below the deuce.

Glass  4     Martin's  3
An upbeat game for the Glass who worked hard for this win. Spare Brent Iler led with 2 goals.

Jan 25
Glass  3     TVT  2     (shootout)
It's usually called NBC but 53 minutes in penalties says otherwise.  Christmas is over and all the love has been lost.  Tyler Sergeant leads TVT with a pair but the night belonged to Glass who had goaltender Ryan Iovacchini make some dazzlers to keep his team in contention.  Crafty Ted Mansion replied for Glass with a pair including a highlighter in the OT that left Orpie spinning.

Martin's  4     Copper Mug  0
Martin's were worried going into this contest without their #1 goaltender but backup Dave Moore played adequately.  This game featured the long-awaited return of the "Falkinator" who scored 3 to lead the attack.

Copper Mug  5     Glass  1
Mug powers over a Glass lineup depleted by suspensions.  Tim Hantz plays well and Ryan Iovacchini takes no penalties, although he did get a severe reprimand from Mr. Boden.

Martin's  4     TVT  2
A spare-enhanced lineup and some good goaltending from Schmeltzy put Martin's in the drivers seat. This gives Martin's a mathematical (or mythical) chance at first place.

Team Spare  4     Glass  3     (shootout)
With 8 regulars missing from their lineup coach Jammer needed a program.  The team age skyrocketed with old guys like Al Robinson, Paul Csanyi and Jake Lofthouse in the lineup but their experience paid off. Martin's were on the ropes as the wiley Ovechkin was at the top of his game netting a pair for Glass.  With spare Adam Hicks on the bench for the extra attacker, the ever-dangerous Falkinator fired one to the net and the opportunistic John Goldner pounced on the rebound to force overtime. Dougie Falkins was the only goal scorer in the shootout and the rookie Hicks held his ground with 3 fine saves.

TVT  5     Copper Mug  3
Try as they might the Muggers can't seem to pry first place away from TVT.  Steve Lavier is always tough to stop and this game was no exception. The speedy forward scored 3 times to knock the wind out of the Mug.

Team Spare  4     Copper Mug  3     (shootout)
General Manager Mike Schmeltz burnt up the phone lines to piece together a roster that had only 4 regulars in it. The lead changed a couple of times and Mug was ahead late but the mighty Falkinator came through with his second of the night to force the OT.  John "Golden Boy" Goldner ripped one to the shelf in the shootout to give Martin's the win. Patrick Whitehead scored twice for the Mug.

TVT  7     Glass  3
The Glass were holding their own in this one until the "Big E", Mike Evanitski, drilled home his second of the night which proved to be the game-winning goal. Spare Dominic Lichtensteiger also had a pair and veteran Johnny Sergeant had 4 assists as TVT sent a playoff message to Glass.

Martin's  5     TVT  4     (shootout)
Martin's goes for a S.H.I.T. as they achieve Shootout History In Tillsonburg with a World Record 3 shootout wins in a row.  This amazing feat was accomplished with 3 different goalies - Adam Hicks, Dave Moore and Mike Schmeltz who will be recognized in the Club Oxford Hall of Fame.  To add to the drama, in all 3 games Martin's were trailing and had to score late to force the OT.  The other weird thing is that in each of these games the opposing team had Mike Priem in their lineup.  You can't make this S.H.I.T. up.

Copper Mug  3     Glass  2
Ryan Iovacchini is penalty-free for the 4th game in a row and Glass loses their 4th straight.  Merely a coincidence? I think not. Perhaps Coach Hare has stifled the passion. Bob Evans leads the Mug with a pair including the game-winner and spare goaltender Aaron DePaepe plays well to secure the win.

TVT  3     Copper Mug  0
TVT clinches first place led by the shutout performance of the amazing Sean Orpen (with a little help from his friend Mike Young and his illegal shinpads).  Draft-dodger Mike Evanitski is cruising along at a goal-a-game pace this month.  The Mug enjoy a penalty-free game made all the more amazing with the recent acquisition of enforcer Ric Mudge.

Glass  6     Martin's  3
A risky move by assistant coach Steve Beausoleil backfires and it puts life into the Glass team who cruise to a big win.  Schmeltzy coulda stopped that one, Steve.  A kinder, gentler game by Martin's who record their first penalty-free game in 26 years.  This approach didn't sit well with team owner Tim Martin who berated the team afterwards via telephone.  Look for a personal appearance on Wednesday.

TVT  5     Glass  0
The 4th shutout activates a contract bonus so team owner Tim Tripp is sending Orpie south for a little R&R before the playoffs. He'll never be the same.

Copper Mug  7     Martin's  4
Even-steven at the halfway mark but Mug was too much for Martin's in the second.  Some emotion came through but it was probably the wrong kind. It will take smart hockey to win in the playoffs.
Mike Priem has 3 and Nick Russell 2 for the winners.  Brent Iler scores a pair for Martin's.

March 1
Glass  3     Copper Mug  2
A good win for Glass as they do it with no spares up their sleeves.  Ryan Iovacchini looks playoff ready and perhaps this will give them a little momentum going into round one against TVT.
TVT  4    Martin's  2
Joel Breddy gave us his best Zdeno Chara imitation with 2 mighty blasts that burned Schmeltzie's hands.  This was an excellent hockey game that could have gone either way if Martin's could have figured out how to remove the horseshoe from Dave Moore's nether regions.
