Constitution Carolina Club Cheerleading
Adopted for 2004/05



Article I.
Carolina Club Cheerleading

Article II.
The purpose of this club is to provide an opportunity for more students to stay involved with cheerleading, maintain skill, meet new people, and have fun.

Article III.
A. Tryouts will be held and specific requirements (chosen by the officers) must be met for the competition squad. 
B. Members must pay dues and fulfill commitment to the squad (such as attend practices, fundraisers, volunteer functions, etc).  Squad members are required to sign a copy of the constitution.  In addition, squad members are required to sign an addendum stating estimated personal financial obligations, as well as other regulatory criteria that pertain to the squad.  This addendum will also include an agreement to schedule their classes around practice times (ie: no classes/labs on Tuesday or Thursday evenings). 
C. A full member (defined above) has the privilege to use specific facilities.  A portion of the club funds is also allocated for their expenses (ie: competitions, travel, uniforms, etc).

Article IV.
A. Practices for the competition squad will be held every Sunday, Tuesday, and some Thursday evenings when school is in session (with a few exceptions for exams, etc.).   Most practices will be held in Fetzer Gym C (gymnastics room) or Woollen  gym.
B. Participants are told at the beginning of the semester about Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday night practices. Any additional practices will be announced ahead of time on the listserv.  Attendance to additional practices is required.
 
Article V.
A. Mandatory offices include a president and a treasurer.  Officers have the option of participating as a cheerleader, or just holding a leadership role.  The treasurer will be responsible for organizing fundraising events and keeping track of an up to date account balance.  The president is in charge of organizing all events including publicity, practices, competitions, etc.  The officers assist the coach(es) in developing the routine and running the practices.  The president has final say in all decisions, and can delegate additional roles to other officers/coaches (such as regulation of rules, squads, etc).    
B. Current officers will elect members to fulfill vacancies within the board.

Article VI.
A. Nominations for the upcoming school year’s president and treasurer will be taken from the current squad at the close of each season.  The term lasts one school year and one may hold office an unlimited number of times.
B. Squad members may nominate themselves or other members for office.  Final decision will be made by officers.
C. All nominated will go through an application and interview process with the current officers, coaches, and advisors. 

Article VII.
A.  The competition squad will pay dues in an amount decided by the officers. This amount is dependent upon payment to a coach. Members must participate in fundraisers chosen by the officers.  Individuals must meet a desired reasonable goal per fundraiser and pay any difference themselves.  
B. Funds will go towards meeting the financial needs of the team (i.e. advertising materials, competition fees, travel fees, uniforms, etc.)  All members will receive an estimated cost list of what they will need to purchase individually (ie: shoes, bloomers, body suits, t-shirts, etc).

Article VIII.
The competition squad will have try outs and participate in at least two to three competitions per year.  Requirements include but are not limited to a standing back handspring, roundoff back handspring,  and the ability to base, fly, or backspot any free standing one-legged stunt with a 360 cradle.  Requirements may be altered dependent upon ability level at tryouts.
   
Article IX.
Carolina Club Cheerleading will adhere to any rules governing club sports at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  National Safety Federation guidelines will also be adhered to, as well as any regulations for particular competitions and events.

Article X.
The club advisor, by university requirements, must be faculty or staff at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or UNC Hospitals.  The officers will select the advisor.  It is preferred that the advisor has knowledge of gymnastics equipment and cheerleading skills. 

Article XI.
The coach is an individual with cheerleading experience including choreography, stunting, and tumbling skills.  The coach may be a student or outside affiliate. Competition coaching responsibilities include but are not limited to running practices and choreographing the competition routine.

Article XII.
This constitution may be amended by agreement in full of the advisor and all serving officers.
