The lady whom we know as Patsy Cline was born: Virginia Patterson Hensley on the 8 th. of September, 1932 in Winchester, Virginia. Her
father was a blacksmith and mechanic by trade
and her mother was a seamstress. Patsy, the
oldest child of three had a younger brother;
Sam and a sister named Sylvia. After a
whirlwind courtship, she married Gerald Cline
in March of 1953 at the age of 20. The
marriage proved to be most unfulfilling for
Patsy, ending in divorce on March 28, 1957.
Patsy had met the love of her life; Charlie
Dick, the previous year. They were married
on September 15, 1957. A daughter; Julia,
was born to the happy couple on August 25,
1958; then a son named Randy on January 22,
1961. Patsy used the volatility in her
relationship with Charlie as the inspiration
in her music. Patsy's love for him often
served as the fire to the wonderful music
which we still enjoy today.
I am deeply moved by the pure innocence
of Patsy's music. For me, she represents
a deep longing of the human spirit for
sincerity in human relations. Her angelic
voice gives me goosebumps EVERY time I
listen to her and I can never grow tired
of her simplistic message. Patsy sings
of love and loss, those timeless, ageless,
universal emotions which tug at the heart-
strings, inviting all to partake in the
basic pleasure of loving wholeheartedly...
There is no greater reward than to love
without reservation. Patsy inspires me
to live, love, laugh and to be glad that
I can enjoy the simple beauty in the
message of her music.
