Located
near the border between England and Wales, this castle originally had a
military purpose. As the National Trust book states, "The defensive
exterior contrasts with the comfortable and decorative state rooms inside."
The ancient church next to the castle still serves a small local congregation,
and that too was open to visitors. The grounds around the house contain
sheep pastures and pretty brick-walled gardens. At left is just a
pretty view of the path to the garden shed.
