I have nearly finished the script for episode five.  All of the action segments have been written, now I'm just going back and adding the narrator parts.  Sadly, episode five will see the departure of Greg, because Dan (Greg) will soon be leaving on his mission, and will therefore be unavailable to do anymore acting for the show.  More updates will follow!

3/10/00

The script for episode five is complete.  I have rough  ideas as to what will happen throughout the final three episodes, but things are still too sketchy to start pounding out episode six's script quite yet.

4/05/00

We are scheduled to record episode five this Saturday.  Dan will make his final appearance as Greg.  As soon as I get the episode edited, I plan on posting a small clip of it in MP3 form on the site, to tide you all over until the entire second series is broadcast.

Episode six's script is about one third of the way written.  It's looking quite promising.  I hope to have all of the scripts written & the second series done by the time school is out, but I can make no promises.  I'm trying as hard as I can.  The saying is true, inspiration doesn't punch a clock.

I made up & sent a half-hour version of BOWEN to a man at "NPR Playhouse" in Washington DC.  It's a combination of the first three episodes.  If he like what he hears, he may
consent to give the finished series national airplay.  I sent it last week but haven't heard back from him yet.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

4/06/00

You can now hear to the entire series of BOWEN at
live365.com (just like with Searcher and Stallion). Click here to listen to live365's streaming audio of BOWEN IN SPACE. Now you can listen whenever you want!

Andy Tredeau at NPR e-mailed me back this week and told me that that BOWEN IN SPACE just wasn't what they were looking for on "NPR Playhouse."  He said he'd give me a full critique of the show within the next few weeks, so we'll know what to improve on for the second series.

I have over ten pages of episode six's script done.  She's
probably two thirds of the way written by know.  Just one
more scene and the narration, and I'll move on to episode
seven.  I haven't started editing episode five yet; I'm still
debating on whether or not I should embark on that before I've finished all the scripts.  It all depends on how often the fairies of inspiration will grace me with their presence . . .

4/30/00

BOWEN IN SPACE is now an award-winning show!  We were awarded "Best Narrative Audio" at the Utah Multimedia Arts Festival on April 27, 2000.  We got a great trophy as a prize, as well as a new Creative Labs AWE32 sound card to better the quality of our production equipment.  I also won an award for a short film I helped create last fall.  Follow the above link for more information on the festival.

Last week I got a letter in the mail from Andy Trudeau with a written review of the half-hour version of the show I sent him.  Among other things, he said he "liked the original edge of the concept" but that the acting "was less effectively realized."  Although our show will probably never be national broadcast quality, it is good to know what we can try to improve on for the second series.  Click here to see a full copy of Trudeau's review.

I'm halfway done writing the final scene of episode six.  I'll try to pound it out & add the narrative parts as soon as I can.  Then seven, then eight, then recording, & then editing.  If you care at all about me finishing the second series, click here.  Thank you.

5/08/00

I just finished episode six's script.  It's holding to the trend of each episode getting successively longer.  She's 14 & a half pages long, whilst episode one's script was a mere 8 & a half.  The script is a good one, with a few surprises.  It is in this episode that we will finally hear the story behind Eustacia's obsession with the Troubled Soul.  It'll be worth the wait.

I have also began to do a small amount of editing on episode five.  I have a little over two minutes of it completed.  The second series is featuring much more original music, composed and recorded live by Dave (Graham), myself (Bowen), Josh (Troubled Soul), and a few more people from school and home.  A taste of the type of music we're making can be heard in the commercial for the second series played on our broadcast at live365.com.

6/03/00

I handed out CD copies of the first series during lunch at the high school this week & last week.  Thanks to all of you that picked one up, we were able to get rid of every copy we made.  We have now distributed over 75 copies to fans.  If any of you out there waned a copy but were unable to get one, e-mail me your address & I'll send you a CD right away.  A check for a couple of dollars to cover the costs of printing & shipping would be appreciated but not required.

I put everyone that gave me their e-mail address when they got their CD on the BIS mailing list.  If you'd like to be included on the list, once again tell me via e-mail.  You'll be periodically informed of current production, website updates, & broadcast times of the show.

I've managed to get over five minutes of episode five edited completely.  I hope to get more done now that school's out.  Expect an MP3 clip of the episode to be featured on the site real soon.  The mysteries, humor, and action to be unfolded will definitely worth the wait.  Stay tuned!

6/09/00

I've got over seven minutes of episode five completely edited.  I'm running into some problems with the voice recordings of the few remaining scenes, & it looks like I'm going to have to have Josh (Troubled Soul) re-record a few parts.  Other than that minor setback, everything is moving along smoothly.

Meanwhile, I'm going to see if I can't get episode seven's script underway while I'm traveling the next few weeks.  I've got most of the basic plot lined out & it's time to start hammering it out into script format.  Hopefully I'll be able to get a lot of that done on the road.

For those of you that can't wait to hear the new BOWEN IN SPACE material, I've posted a small segment of the fifth episode here on the site.  It's a bit of a cliffhanger, so you'll have to make sure to tune in when it's aired to find out what happens to everyone. Click here to play a 60 second sneak preview of of episode five.

My travels did not provide ground for as much new BOWEN material as I would have liked, but I have managed to edit another half a minute or so of episode five.  Note the new link in the links section to Shoestring Radio Theater, a radio drama program featuring original radio plays by contemporary writers as well as adaptations of traditional favorites.  Their website is also featuring a link to the BOWEN site.  I hope to have news of better progress soon.  Thanks for your interest.

8/06/00

The good news: episode five is a done deal.  Josh (Troubled Soul) & I  re-recorded a few parts & I stayed up until 2 a.m. quite a few nights the last two weeks getting it edited to perfection.  I've showed it to a select few cast members & they seem to think it's up to par with the first four.  So your waiting isn't going to be in vain.

The rest of the news: I'm finally getting scenes outlined for episode seven's script, and just today I started writing it out.  Hopefully these next few weeks before everyone heads to college will provide grounds to get some script writing done.  We may try and get episode six recorded before everyone disperses as well.  Things are looking up!

8/26/00

Episode seven is extremely underway. My recent move to Ephraim has actually provided great grounds for script writing.   I've spent a few afternoons/evenings sitting under trees or on the grass on campus at Snow College, busily mapping out the sequences of events for episode seven.  I've got the whole episode outlined now, and it looks like it's going to be the longest one yet.  Lots of action & surprises in this one.

I've only got a little over three pages of actual script written.  I did have about four a few weeks ago, but I up and scrapped the whole thing when I realized it wasn't going in the direction I wanted it to.  I'm very happy with the way it's turning out now, though, and I should get started on more actual script shortly.  Progress has been and will continue to be steady.  Thanks for checking.

9/08/00

It had been becoming more and more apparent that I'd planned a lot of action to fit into the time frame I'd given myself.  I planned on fitting so much material into episode seven that it looked like it was going to be twice as long as any other episode.  This was discouraging, because I didn't want extremely long episodes that the listener wasn't used to &  might give up on.  And I didn't want to cut out any material either.

I was taking a walk outside on Labor Day, pondering this very thing, when the revelation hit me like a bolt of thunder.  I didn't have to cut out material or make the episodes super long.  I would just up the number of episodes from four to six!  More action for the listeners & more room for me to breathe.  It's official.  There's going to be ten total episodes of BOWEN IN SPACE when the second series is complete.  Of course, this does mean you're going to have to wait a little longer to hear them, but like I said before, it will be well worth the wait.

I was a mad script writing machine this week.  I started adding on the the three pages of episode seven I already had completed on Sunday, and I finished the whole thing today.  I've been spending my life in the writing lab at Snow College.  But it's done, all 15 & a half pages of it.  I've never written a script in such a short amount of time, & this is the longest one yet.

A few of us are getting together tomorrow to record selected parts of episodes six & seven.  Since I'm away at college almost every weekend, we're going to be capitalizing on every opportunity to record while in Kearns. Thanks again for checking.  I hope to have more good news soon!

9/12/00

The recording session on Saturday was a failure.  We managed to get some of us together & everything set up, but something was wrong with the computer & we couldn't get it to record.  So we all gave up & Dave (Graham) took Josh (Troubled Soul) & me to breakfast instead.  We have since fixed the problem on the computer, and plan to record episodes six & seven soon.

Note the new look & feel of the homepage, as well as the new poll I've put up.  Please vote, but only once.  I'm planning on changing the poll frequently, & when I do I'll make a poll archives page.  Check again soon!

9/19/00

Today my old buddy Gerald recorded his parts for a new character in the second series named Terrance.  The recording session was quite the feat, considering he was recording in Kearns while I was here in Ephraim.  I coached him through it over the phone, complete with a crash course in digital audio recording, in about an hour and a half.

The reason we went to such great lengths to do record his parts today is because Gerald's leaving on his mission tomorrow.  I finished the final script Terrance would be in this morning.  And there was one scene that Gerald didn't have the script for that I had to dictate to him purely from memory.  It was a close one, but we got it done.  Months from now we'll combine today's recording with the rest of the characters'.  Gerald himself will probably be in Germany by then.  The benefits of modern technology have been crucial throughout the production of BOWEN IN SPACE.

10/02/00

The script for episode eight is underway.  I have over five & a half pages typed & the rest all figured out.  This is turning out to be another good one.  There's new characters & conflicts throughout the whole second series.

I've also put up a new archives section on the website.  Expect to see more obscure stuff in there shortly-- recording dates, old notes, & maybe even old versions of scenes & scripts.  All to come very soon.

10/30/00

Episode eight's script is nearing completion.  A total of 10 & a half pages are saved on hard drive, with just over one final scene to write.  It's proving to be a difficult scene to do because of the very dramatic turn in plot in contains, so I'm doing my best not to rush the process.  I anticipate getting it done very soon.  Until then, vote on the new poll.

11/18/00

The script for episode eight is in the proverbial can!  She ended up being seventeen pages long.  A paltry two more scripts to go & then we’ll start recording.  I have this feeling that my friends & I will spend many days along Christmas break talking into socks in my bedroom.  It’s a wonderful feeling.  There are plenty of new characters in the second series with plenty of new actors you may very well know . . . Sonia Moseley, Joel Lee Gardner, and Dustin Beck, just to name a few.  And of course the return of all the classics, with the possible exception of Dan, rest his soul.  We may even attempt to throw out a few scenes over Thanksgiving, depending on how grateful everyone's feeling.  Thanks for visiting the site, go vote on & sign things & check back later.

12/18/00

During a night of divine inspiration a week or two ago, I paced my apartment room with music blaring & scrawled out the rest of BOWEN IN SPACE's happenings in a little white book of mine.  I've got the final two episodes very much figured out, although I haven't quite got to writing any solid script just yet.  It will all come out very soon.  Note the new links I've got up, as well as Lee's little musical number type unit within the archives.  All are worth checking out.  I plan to soon have more news on more second series recordings and music production, so sit tight if you still care (which you all do, of course).  Tell all your friends we will be able to hear the rest of BOWEN IN SPACE soon enough.  Thank you.

01/01/01

Oh children, if you only knew of the many exciting BIS goings on that have been occuring this week and the last.  Much has been done, and much more will be done, all in  a very short amount of time.

The script for episode nine?  It's completely complete.  Eighteen and a half pages in four days or so.  The script for episode ten?  It's way underway.  And due to be finished this week.

And as for recording things, the crew and I have been hard at work on that score as well.  All of the action segments for episode six have been cut onto hard drive.  The majority of episode seven is in the proverbial can as well, and we've got a good start on episode eight.  That's what happens when you have a dedicated team at your home night after night.

We plan to be at it all for of this week as well.  Not only will all the second series episodes be completely written by Saturday, they will all be recorded as well.  I will trek back to Ephraim, Utah with a full heart and full hard drive, ready to start cracking on the task of editing.  Much has indeed been done, children.  Rest assured, the completion of your favorite radio series is that much closer.

01/29/01

So very many BIS things have been done, my little friends.  The last two weeks of Christmas break were hectic ones at Clok Productions (my bedroom).  I managed to force the cast to come to my home almost every day to record the many scenes in the final five episodes of the series.  The cast was so dedicated in taking away so much of their time to come to so many sessions for so long.  It wasn't easy, and it wasn't without effort, but we got everything recorded that we wouldn't be able to do later.  And I'm doing the later stuff as I edit.

Scriptwriting was another thing.  I wrote episode nine's script in four days or so.  And as for episode ten's script -- I quite literally wrote it in between recording sessions (and often times durring recording sessions).  It ended up being 34 pages long - by far the longest episode.  That's almost four times as long as episode one!  But I got it all done, and it's high quality, and that's what matters.

I've been editing a lot during my spare time here in Ephraim.  I've spent countless hours in my office at the "Kage" (Snow's student radio station) putting together the action segments for episodes six and seven.  Episode six is completely complete except for the narrator parts, which we plan to record this weekend, and over three minutes of episode seven has been edited as well.  I'm working hard to get the second series over the airwaves as soon as possible-- thanks for checking & staying with us!  More news soon!

02/07/01

The first series of BOWEN IN SPACE is now being broadcast on the "Kage'' here at Snow College.  Kyle and I play an episode every week on our sci-fi and classic rock show, "The Other Brick in the Wall".  We are even planning to pre-release the second series once it's completed.

Angie (Narrative and Eustacia) came down to Ephraim last weekend and we recorded her many second series parts in one session.  I have over seven minutes of the action segments of episode seven completely edited, with more being done every day.  That about sums it up for now.  Check back soon for some new BIS commercials we're playing on the Kage.  Until then, keep up the patience.

02/27/01

Episodes six and seven are completely finished, background music and narratives and all.  Episode eight is completely done as well except for the music and narration.  I really have been putting almost all of my spare time into the second series' production.  We plan on pre-releasing the second series over the Kage as soon as we're done with the first series, and I'm working on a deal to get it played over KRCL just about as soon.  We're almost there, kids!

03/25/01

After all this time, the second series is finally being aired on the radio.  Note that this is only a pre-release to the residents of Ephraim and Snow College.  Dates for the full-blown release broadcast on KRCL should be available soon.  It's a bit scary, seeing that I haven't completed episodes 8-10 yet, but I will have them complete by the time they need to be played on "The Other Brick in the Wall".

Also, another renovation of the homepage, now with a new logo and second series pictures!  You also may have noted the fact that I've changed my counter, poll, and guestbook provider as well.  The company I was using before wanted to start charging me so I switched to Bravenet & I like it much better (enough to give them a link).  You'll also note the links to the websites of Instant Winner and Spitball-- two bands the Kage hosted a concert with last weekend & I had the opportunity to introduce on stage.  I fully endorse both groups!

Expect to see second series character profiles, credits, episodes synopses, and history sometime in the very near future.  And Salt Lake residents, expect to hear the long-awaited second series just as soon.  It's finally here, kids!

04/04/01

Last night a young man by the name of Adam Knapp did an exquisite job of recording the lines for DwizzleDwarf the Nomad, a new character in episodes nine and ten.  I had witnessed Adam Knapp's exceptional acting skills in Snow College's production of Kiss Me Kate earlier this semester, and succeeded in recruiting him for one of the final open parts in "Bowen in Space".  I think I'd venture to say he's done the finest job out of all of us, seeing as he's a real actor and all.  Just another thing for you kids to look forward to.

04/13/01

Episode eight is complete.  Over eleven minutes of episode nine is edited.  I'm chipping away at it, spending insane amounts of time in my office, listening to They Might Be Giants and putting together your favorite radio drama.  And a deal with KRCL has been all but sealed!  Laura Martin of "Euphoric Distortion" has agreed to play BIS on Sunday nights (we would play it all on Variables again, but Scott Howard and the show have since retired).  Broadcast dates will be posted soon.  Thanks and come back.

04/25/01

Episode nine has been completed (and broadcasted).  Last Saturday Vale White, a DJ here at the Kage, recorded all the lines for the Voice from the Past featured in the final episode of BIS.  Vale did a fine job, and incidentally, will be taking over my responsibilities as Kage webmaster next year.  It is also rumored that he will be playing all ten episodes of Bowen in Space on his Friday night classic rock program, The Time Warp Show.  Rumors to be confirmed at a later date.  I'm spending every second I can chipping at episode ten.  Over fourteen minutes are edited (about half).  It will no doubt be done shortly.

05/06/01

Episode ten is done.  I finished it a few hours before it was broadcast last Tuesday.  It is by far the longest episode in the series - over half an hour long.  BIS will be off the Ephraim airwaves for a season, until Vale begins their broadcast next fall.

We do not yet have a definite date as to when the Salt Lake premier will  begin.  Laura Martin will be playing an episode a week on her show "Euphoric Distortion" soon.

And this is where the current work section of the BIS website must end.  Production is complete.  The series is finished.  All that's left to do is listen.  Thank you for your interest.  You may now go browse the website and listen to the show!
