| Category Rules |
| Following rules is a major part of every day life. In competiton there are certain rules that everyone must abide by. |
| Open Line Time Limit: 3 Min 1. Team must consist of at least 5 dancers, male or female. 2. Dance must be performed in some sort of line at all times. Bending, rotating, moving, passing through, & touching the floor is exceptable. |
| Precision Time Limit: 5 Min 1. Team must consist of 4 couples or 8 dancers, male or female. 2. This is a couple oriented dance. 3. Dancers must be in step with each other at all times. 4. Figures are encouraged, but not required. 5. Teams must use traditional instrumental music. |
| Hoedown Time LImit: 5 Min 1. Minimum of 4 couples, male or female, or combination. 2. This is a couple oriented dance. Figures and formations should be executed as couples during the majority of the routine. 3. This is a freestyle category. No dancer must be attentionally in step with another. 4. Any type of figures or formations may be used. 5. Teams must use traditional instrumental music. |
| Exhibition Time Limit: 5 Min 1. Minimum of 5 dancers, male orfemale. 2. Teams should us creative choreography to obtain audience appeal. 3. Any types of figures or formations are allowed. 4. Dance must not be called or cued. 6. Dance lifts, pull-throughs, splits, tosses, or leaps are allowed. Carwheels or flips are not. 7. Any type of music can be used. However it should be appropriate to the type of routine being performed. |
| Show Time limit: 5 min, including prop set-up & performance 1. Minimum of 3 dancers, male or female. 2. Routine must carry out a theme. 3. Emphasis on showmanship, creativity, choreography, and execution of routine. 4. Stage props are allowed. |
| Standing Line Time Limit: 3 Min 1. Team must consist of at least 5 dancers, male or female. 2. Dance must be performed in some sort of line at all times. No moving is allowed at anytime throughout the dance. 3. Routine is choreographed for one but danced by many at the same time. 4. Footwork & body mechanics is required at all times, No progressive steps, & no touching the floor at any times. |

| Duo-Same Sex Dance must be precision, NO rise & shines, acrobats Dancers should dance as a couple with hands joined as much as possible. Use plenty of arm/couple turns. Hands may be dropped for a short period of time. Dancers must use entire stage, showing ability to move as a unit. Any time of music is allowed. Time limit is 3 minutes. |
| Duet-Male & Female Dance must be precision, NO rise & shines, acrobats Dancers should dance as a couple with hands joined as much as possible. Use plenty of arm/couple turns. Hands may be dropped for a short period of time. Dancers must use entire stage, showing ability to move as a unit. Only instrumental traditional style of music is allowed(no vocals).. Time limit is 3 minutes. |
| Freestyle Solo Judging will be based on dancing in a line, rise & shine, and moving in a circle. Freestyle is defined as the dancer's self-expression using any style or combination of styles in performing their art. Dance can combine drag-slide clogging with buck or they may choose not to. Males and females do not compete against each other. The music is selected by the festival director(s). Call backs may be necessary. |
