| Story In what was possibly the greatest triumph and most idiotic mistake of all time, a small group of independent researchers released a statement to the press stating that they had discovered the technology to make time travel not only possible, but simple and inexpensive. They had drawn up the plans for the Pulse Device, a simple hand-held machine that tore a hole in space-time, allowing the operator to step backwards or forwards in time. Within hours, the plans had been stolen and distributed across the underground networks. This lead to thousands of people building their own Pulse Devices, flying back in time just to see what it was like. This unregulated time travel lead to severe disruptions in the overall scope of time itself. So much of history was being changed all at once that the present was being erased. This event was later named The Collapse. The government, foreseeing this problem, had already constructed a team of special forces agents called the Nightblades. The Nightblades went back in time and destroyed the plans for the Pulse Device before they could be released, severing the chain of events that lead to The Collapse. However, the Nightblades and their superiors knew that if they left things as they were, it would simply lead to someone else discovering and releasing the secret, leading to a Second Collapse. To counteract this, they released their own plans for a time machine into the underground networks. However, these machines would only simulate time travel. Upon their use, these false Pulse Devices (Called Flux Disrupters) would create a Tangent Universe around the user, which seemed just like true time travel. These tangent universes were absolutely real, but only for a short time. It was a simple tweak of the Pulse Device technology, in which rather than creating a portal back in time, it created a separate timeline and sent the user there. When the user exited the Tangent Universe, it was immediately destroyed, with no lasting effects on the true timeline. This lead to all the independent researchers to give up researching time travel, thereby never truly discovering it. They all believed that the Flux Disrupters were real time machines, so there was no reason to keep looking for ways to do it. The Second Collapse was temporarily averted. The government knew that there was always a chance of someone cracking the Flux Disrupter technology and figuring out true time travel. To stop this, the Nightblades were kept as a hidden black operations team, deployed whenever anyone came too close to discovering the truth. They would use threats, sabotage, and even assassination to prevent another threat of Collapse. Recently, there have been minor disruptions appearing on the space-time monitors. The Nightblades are positive that no one is going through…but something is still wrong. Certain Tangent Universes, called Disrupted Tangents, aren’t being properly constructed. Instead of completely severing the ties to the true timeline, some threads are remaining and things are being changed. The Nightblades are having a hard enough time keeping this era in line, let alone repairing damages to the past. Thus, the Neo-Nightblades, a Nightblades splinter group, was formed. Their job: To police these malfunctioning tangent universes by repairing all damages, severing the ties to the present, and sealing them off forever. However, there are some that desire to keep these tangent universes open. A rogue group of hackers calling themselves The Resolution has been noticing the disturbances as well. They’re searching for the truth, and are trying to keep the threads woven from the Disrupted Tangents to the True Timeline. They’ve come closer to the truth than anyone else, operating under the radar of the Nightblades and sabotaging their attempts whenever possible. This is where the story of Clockwork Alibi: Revolver begins. Who is truly right? The oppressive government force, murdering scientists to cover up the truth thereby saving the world, or the underground criminal organizations that are trying to find the truth, even if it means killing countless innocents?
