Birdie was rescued when her momma a Black Lab kicked her out of the nest and would not nurse her. Bob Picket arranged for her to be taken to a vet and surrendered on 1- 23-03 by her owners. Birdie spent the night at the vet and was checked over it is believed that Birdie is Blind or at best has very limited site. Bob brought her to Sisters Haven on 1-24-03.
Birdie is
very sweet and way to small for her age.

Birdie was eating pretty good she loved Gerber's Baby Meat and  loved to clean the jars.
Birdie met many nice people in her short life and was taken to many events we did (  like adopt a pet days ) she loved to ride in the shopping carts in the stores, and any one who was lucky enough to meet her just fell in love with her. Birdie loved everyone but mostly loved the kids. Birdie went with us when we visited the girl scouts so we could help them
earn their pet badge. The girl scouts all brought nice gifts for Birdie and the other rescued pets but Birdie got to play with her new toys right then and there. Birdie sure had a fun time with all the girls...

On 5-1-03 we were lucky enough to rescue what we believe to be Birdies brother we named him Kennedy and he was foster with Marlo and Adam . Kennedy is now in his forever home doing very well. Kennedy did not suffer the health problems Birdie did.
Birdie loved to play outside she would chase the leaves around till she got tired then she would just lay down and enjoy the sun shine. Although Birdie's site was very limited NOTHING slowed her down she feared NOTHING.

Over the 6 months she was with us we had 3 blood test done on Birdie the last one had shown that Birdie's kidney was not functioning as it should. Her life expectancy was any ones guess. Although Birdie's life was one of many visits to different vets and many different tests and tons of medicines and eye drops daily She never once complained. Birdie was one of the Sweetest puppies we have ever had and all who met her just fell in love .
June 30th Birdie seemed to have problems getting up and walking but was still wanting to go for her walk . We walked Birdie although she wasn't able to go far so we sat and held her and played with her in the sunshine. Birdie was Happy and still had her happy tail wag and kisses for us all. That night I tucked Birdie in and stayed with her for a long while talking to her and loving her she still had kisses for me. Early in the am July 1st (Birdie's 6 month Birthday) she was still tucked in as I had left her but had peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Birdie was a wonderful Puppy who was loved by many she was my baby for 6 months and she will be missed more then words can say. Birdie is all healed now she is running and playing and can see. Birdie never suffered or in pain and although her life was short she only ever knew loved...
