OUR RESCUE SHELTER
                           COME ON IN !!!
This was a chicken coop , we were going to make into a doll house for our adopted daughters CHARLENE and KIMBERLY. They unselfishly gave up having a doll house so we could do rescue.
And on 8/10/98 the rescue shelter was started, there was so much to do , planning, cleaning , building would it ever get done......It did but before we could even get started  we had puppies to rescue  on 8/11/98 we rescued our first pups 6 of them.. ALL WERE ADOPTED
The shelter was finished and going well except winter came ...We needed heat !!!
December 26th 1998 we got heat a nice wood burning stove...Thank you Bob, John and Paul for all the hard work installing it....
Now it was nice and warm but it seemed a bit small there was always dogs or puppies that needed to be rescued ..... We needed more room.....
Thats when Bob decided to donate $5000.00 to make the shelter bigger. It took all summer to build and the men worked  and worked . Would it ever get finished and the messes to clean and yet the dogs and puppies keep coming ,they did not seem to mind the mess as long as they had food and water and was safe.
The shelter became a family project . Lynn and I arranged a paint party , everyone helped there was so much painting , cleaning and still bulding to be done. We even put the grandkids to work.
THANK YOU FAMILY !!!
This is a view of the inside of the shelter, its the office area and under the steps is what we call the mom's pen . Its nice and cozy and private for our mom dogs with her puppies. Mom has a doggie door to go out to an outside potty pen. And of course we had a mom use it before we could get it finished. In fact there is still a small area of ceiling over it that still needs paint...
This is upstairs what I call our sick ward .this is the first place puppies come when they come in so they are isolated . Most of our puppies come off DEATH ROW  so most of them come in sick . Most have kennel cough so here is where they get better. When they are well they are moved downstairs to the big pens . Sometimes they have to wait for a pen to open . This room is very handy everything is portable I can change it around to fit the need. I have housed older dogs up here, and our last resident was a mom with her 4 pups they had the whole room....THEY CAME OFF DEATH  ROW !!!
LETS GO UPSTAIRS
Well there you have it SISTERS HAVEN a safe clean place for dogs and puppies waiting for loving families to adopt them. We still have some work to be done on the shelter. Our next project is to get water run out here. In the summer we run a hose to here but not in the WINTER  not in Michigan. We carry water from the house, and aren't dogs more thirsty in the winter......
Thank you Bob for all your hard work and money you put into the shelter for me, and for being so understanding when supper isn't cooked or the housework gets put aside because I'm taking care of sick puppies. I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU....and Thank you to the rest of my family too..
