Name of Website Description Reasons for Recommendation
 1 Language Learning and Technology     a refereed journal with articles about applications of technology to language teaching--primarily computers   This journal publishes excellent discussions and research articles on a variety of important topics involving computers and language learning/teaching.
 2 Webster's Dictionary      a hyper-text dictionary    It's good to have this site accessible for quick definitions, as it provides a quick hyper-text definition for any word. It also provides links to other dictionaries as well as a thesaurus
 3  ESL Wonderland      A teacher developed site prepared with both the student and teacher in mind    This site is great for teachers and students, and also provides a sort of springboard to a number of other sites.  Althouth the discussion/lesson plans pages are outdated, the activities are still creative and useful.  The themes are also socially relevant.. 
 4  Dave's ESL Cafe      a complex site,a virtual network of information with everything from jobs for teachers to activities for students    This is the ultimate ESL resource site that no list of links would be complete without.  This site is personable, thorough, user friendly, and guaranteed to always be up to date. There's something there for everyone, and I always enjoy checking out the lastest teaching vacancies throughout the world.
 5   Everything ESL      a network of info useful for teachers; includes lesson plans, teaching tips, and a discussion board    This site is truly useful for teachers, and isn't just another compilation of links to other links.  It includes a variety of content based lesson plans, and even offers tips for new teachers. It also has an up to date discussion board where teachers can ask questions and share ideas.
 6   Lingua Center      provides well organized links to activities and information pages useful for teachers and students    This site provides a pretty thorough menu of information for teachers and students. It includes accessible activity ideas and information for a university level intensive English program, as well as links that would be relevant and useful.  For example, the site provides information about test preparation and ESL courses. I particularly like the Grammar Safari and the authentic listening materials available for students on the Web. 
 7  Crossword Puzzles      interactive site for students; includes crossword puzzles arranged by difficulty level and topic; also has other activities like treasure hunts   This site is great because students can work independently and choose their own puzzles. The advanced ones are pretty difficult -- I needed a few hints myself! 
 8  Internet TESL Journal      comprehensive site that includes countless activities,lesson plans, and fun info for the classroom    This is a great place to go if just need a little "hook" to get class started(game or joke) or if you need a full-fledged lesson plan. It also includes an internal search engine that allows you to find certain activity types or topics. 
 9   English Space      great site for teachers and students; developed by non profit educational group in UK; must join, but it's free    This is a well-designed professional site that enables students to become a part of a global community and improve reading, writing, and listening skills through the use of games, quizzes, and an interactive community of learners.  Once you join you choose a cartoon like alien that represent you in "english space". Pretty cool.
 10  English.Studyabroad.Com     comprehensive listing of Intensive English programs throughout the world    This site includes contact information for all kinds of English language programs throughout the world. It's a great resource for students and teachers alike.
 11   LeRosey Crosswords and Quizzes      interactive quizzes and crosswords for students    Although there aren't too many quizzes and crosswords at the this site, the ones that are included are on interesting topics that the students would enjoy. (i.e. computer hackers; Mt. Everest)
 12   English Channel     comprehensive site useful for teachers and students; provides great content based activities for each of the four skills    This site provides great course material for teachers and students of business English.  The material is well organized and quite navigable, as the site provides more content that is suited for adult learners.  I particularly like the global update section that even includes some RealAudio links for authentic news material, followed by an assignment. Two thumbs up for this site!
 13 Vocabulary Generator     limited activities but countless links to vocabulary related sites    Although this site has very few activities itself, it does provide countless links to vocabulary related pages.  This is perhaps the most concentrated "link" network I've found.
 14  CNN Newsroom      CNN educational site that brings current events into the classroom    Although not necessarily intended for ESL/EFL learners, this site provides a great springboard for discussions among intermediate/advanced learners.  The site provides up to date news information accompanied by questions and topics for discussion. 
 15   About.com     one stop shopping for both the student and teacher; if what your looking for isn't there - the site will tell you where to go to find it    Truly, this site provides more than most students would ever need. However, it includes articles relevant to learning English, as well as forums/chat rooms for discussion. It also has activities that even include soundbytes so students can practice listening and then responding.  The site also includes information for teachers - including resources and training. <
 16   Vocabulary.com      vocabulary building site geared towards L1, but useful for L2   This site is intended for L1 speakers in need of a vocabulary boost at just about any level. The great thing about this site is that it includes some work with roots and affixes - great for ESL/EFL learners.   It also has some fun puzzles - 
 17    TOEFL Exercises      student created site w/sample TOEFL questions from parts 2&3    Although it isn't interactive, this simple site has a few great sample TOEFL sections, with the answers posted after each one.   It was created by a student who took the TOEFL and then compiled some of the information he found to be useful  in his own preparation.
 18   TestMagic.com      free test preparation resources for students    This site provides free practice exercises for various standardized tests including the TOEFL, GMAT, and GRE. It includes both interactive and printable materials, as well as useful information and links for students. I particularly like the fact that it includes writing samples.
 19   ESLLessons.com      interactive site for students to practice whatever they wish; a number of grammar points are covered    Students and/or teachers can decide the type of exercies (ie vocabulary, pronouns, etc) and then choose activities accordingly.  There aren't many activities in each category, but there are a number of categories.
 20   Better English -Vocabulary      vocabulary exercises for students; includes idioms, business English   This site includes more than 250 free exercises for students. Even though they are short, they cover a variety of topics that most students would find useful.
 21    Puzz.com      puzzles, jokes, trivia, and word games   This would be a fun site for lesson " hooks" to use with ESL students. 
 22  Online Thesaurus      interactive thesaurus and more!   Great site for advanced students who need writing help. This site enables learners to find appropriate words for a variety of situations.
23  Interactive Grammar Quizzes interactive grammar and vocabulary quizzes This site has a wide variety of quizzes organized by grammar point -- could be used by both teachers and studdents.  I particularly like the "dating game" that deals with word relationships.
24  A Guide to Learning English     comprehensive site for school age ESL students   This site has something for students, teachers, as well as parents.  It has some pretty fun interactive quizzes and matching exercises for lower level students.
25   English Zone a variety of quizzes, games, books and links for students and teachers Great site w/ free stuff - this is the vocabulary link, but you can then navigate to other academic categories.  It also includes games and info on books and other links
26  Online books Index     links to online books; can search by title, author or subject   A bookmark must for teachers -- great place to get texts for reading exercises, or to send students for some online reading material. 
27  Karin's ESL Party Land for teachers and students; includes various lessons, quizzes and a chat room for students; lesson plans and resources for teachers This is a fun, colorful site that is quite navigable. I like the way it is divided up by teacher or student, and I particularly like the learning pages where students can learn more about a particular topic and then chat about it. 
28  Many Things      fun stuff for students, including slang, anagrams, puzzles and quizzes   This site includes word puzzles, games and other interactive activities suitable for ESL learners.
29  Reading Comprehension Worksheets printable worksheets for teachers, students, and parents These worksheets include cloze outlines with word banks, as well as reading passages followed by comprehension questions.   Some of the worksheets also include crossword puzzles.
30   Writing Tips      tips for writers, including punctuation, grammar, word choice, etc.    This is a great site for upper level ESL/EFL students who do a lot of academic writing.  It provides a quick reference point where students canc get specific tips for their writing. 
31 Voyages 3 companion web site for Voyages 3 book This site provides activities and teacher tips to go along with the Voyages 3 workbook. It provides a nice model for teachers who are attempting a similar task!
32  Purdue's online writing lab     more information than any student or teacher could ever use; helpful, nonetheless   The site provides one-stop-shopping for the student who needs to work on his/her writing skills. The site includes countless handouts on a variety of grammar points, as well as very specific writing concerns.  Good resources for teachers as well.
