Texas Fly Fishing: BACKWATER HAWGS is the story of a bunch of guys who are obsessed with Texas fishing, hunting and the great Texas outdoors. The intent of this site is to share our stories, knowledge (or lack of knowledge) about a variety of outdoor opportunities in Texas.  Whether it be fishing by conventional means or freshwater and coastal saltwater fly fishing, we just love to fish.  When the weather gets cold, many of us like to grab a bow or shotgun as well as our rods!

Texas is blessed with numerous resources for all fishermen that include crystal clear Hill Country streams full of feisty and aggressive Guadalupe bass, to expansive saltwater flats that are home to cruising redfish and sow trout, to large reservoirs that hold numerous species of game fish, to small farm ponds and stock tanks that hold ol'e  mossy jaws.  Our State also boasts an excellent  freshwater trout population in the unique Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake.  From sight casting on clear saltwater flats to tossing flies at Lake Texoma stripers, Texas has you covered.  And if it happens to be hunting season...  well we like that too! If any of these opportunities get your pulse racing, then you have found yourself a home amongst friends, anglers and outdoorsmen....  Welcome!

Feel free to browse the articles or fly recipes sections of the site and by all means if you have a story or fly recipe you want to share, send it in and we will post it. We have also posted some pictures of us and our fishin' & huntin' buddies. The pictures try to show the diverse types of fish and fishery environments in Texas, and hopefully you will find that they show a flavor of the wonderful outdoors rather than just pictures of big dead fish!  Also, be sure to join our forums to read, learn, and join in on the latest fishing, hunting, outdoor reports, and discussions.

If you have any comments, ideas, or are just convinced we have no idea (and you certainly wouldn't be the first!) about what we are talking about please email us:
