Willie Logan Biography

Edinburgh born guitarist Willie Logan has played in bands since his teens and became a professional musician soon after leaving full time education. While in his early 20's devoted all his efforts to writing and recording pop records with the likes of Keith Marshall (of 70's Glam Rock band 'Hello') and John Payne (who later became a member of the Rock band Asia) on the Arrival Label. He soon became the in-house recording engineer / producer for the companies acts.

In 1997 he made the final of Guitarist magazine’s ‘Guitarist Of The Year’ competition at Wembley and at that time had several guitar instrumental tribute albums out on the Hallmark label, (Elvis, Buddy Holly, Marc Bolan, Carpenters and John Lennon) on which he played all the instruments. The series sold in excess of 70,000 units. He also recorded a version of ‘THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN’ which, topped the Besonic.com Blues charts for 3 years, enjoying on average 200 – 300 plays a day for the first 6 months and went on to secure a record deal to release it on a blues flavoured album ‘THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN BLUES’ world wide.

He spent 10 years off and on playing in the UK and Europe with the vintage folk band New Celeste who's previous guitarists included Graeme Duffin (Wet Wet Wet), Nigel Clark (Hue & Cry) + many more. Willie has worked with many well-known artists (Runrig, Ted Mckenna & Chris Glen (SAHB), Dougie Vipond (Deacon Blue) to name a few and frequently enlists the talents of some of Scotland’s finest musicians, many who have toured in bands with well-known names in the music industry, to do occasional gigs and complete recorded material. The current touring band is a trio and is made up of brothers Ashley & Lawrie Macmillan who are also part of the Ray Wilson Band (ex-Genesis and Stiltskin front man) and touring 'The World of Genesis' and 'Stiltskin'.

It is planned that, with his original rock instrumental album ‘TUNES FOR GUITAR SLINGERS’, released in 2002 and currently available (Rollercoaster Records RCCD 6009), the blues album ‘THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN BLUES’, revisited & repackaged – (Rollercoaster Records RCCD 6015) and the NEW 2006 album 'FRAGILE CREATURES' – (Rollercoaster Records RCCD 6014) out now on Rollercoaster Records, the Willie Logan Band will not only be making more frequent appearances, but will become a more permanent venture.
