2 Peter 1:16-21

16.  For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17.  For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased:
18.  and this voice we ourselves heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19.  And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:
20.  knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.
21. For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
The second epistle of Peter is in three parts .  The first chapter deals with true "knowledge".  In the first part of the chapter we are told how the truths of this knowedge are to be ncreased in.  The second half of the chapter then tells us why "these things" are to be always "held n remembrance."
Peter was battling "false teachers" and heresy.  They were denying the basic doctrines and were encouraging sinful behavior. Does this sound familiar today?   The way to deal with this kind of heresy is to teach and keep sound doctrne.  The false teaching will be shown to be out of line with the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The teachers of false doctrine really have no more idea than do the beasts and they also resemble the beasts by being controlled by their animal instincts. These people are shameless and daring in their arrogance, ready to defy what even angels speak of with respect.

He speaks of being eyewitnesses of the majesty and power of the Lord and of the witness of God Himself when He said "This is my Son in whom I am well pleased."
Peter also speaks of the sure word of prophecy which foretold of the coming of Jesus Christ and the circumstances of His birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection. This prophecy came to us by  prophets who spoke from God "being moved by the Holy Spirit."
