On Joy

Joy is prayer - Joy is strength -
Joy is love - Joy is a net of love
by which you can catch souls.
God loves a cheerful giver.
She gives most who gives with joy.
The best way to show our gratitude to God
and the people is to accept everything with joy.
A joyful heart is the normal result
of a heart burning with love.
Never let anything so fill you
with sorrow as to make you forget
the joy of Christ Risen.

We all long for heaven where God is,
but we have it in our power to
be in heaven with him right now -
to be happy with him at this very moment.
But being happy with him now means:
loving as he loves,
helping as he helps,
giving as he gives,
serving as he serves,
rescuing as he rescues,
being with him twenty-four hours,
touching him in his distressing disguise.

Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
earth and heav'n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
center of unbroken praise;
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flow'ry meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
call us to rejoice in Thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving,

Wellspring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest.
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
all who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the Joy Divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus
which the morning stars began,
Father love is reigning o'er us,
brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
Joyful music lifts us sunward,
in the triumph song of life.
