Leaman Oatman (535)

Leaman (Ruben Bates, Isaac, George, John, Johannes), son of Ruben Bates and Sally (Benedict) Oatman, was born 27 November 1828 in Vermont.

On 1 February 1854, in Vermont, he married Ann Elisa Parson ("Pearsons", per daughter Lucy's death certificate).

The family lived for a time in Arlington, Vermont, later moving to Neenah, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, and then Kingston, Minnesota.

1725 Franklin, b. 12 May 1857, Manchester Twp., Bennington Co., VT

1726 Lucy Ruth, b. 25 Mar 1874, WI; d. 26 Nov 1931, Portland Emanuel Hospital, Multnomah Co., OR; bur. Clearwater, MN, 3 Dec 1931. At death, Lucy was a resident of Kelso, Cowlitz Co., WA. She was a schoolteacher for 30 years, and d. unmarried of cancer at 57 yr, 8 mo, 1 dy.

1727 Mary

1728 Ira, b. 22 Oct 1873, Neenah, Winnebago Co., WI; d. 14 Aug 1952; m. 1) Nellie Beda Shoberg, 5 Nov 1892; she d. 18 Mar 1895. He m. 2) Jane Cynthia Collins, 27 Jun 1899. She was b. 19 Apr 1877 and d. 22 Dec 1931. Ira was a blacksmith by trade in Kingston, MN, until 1912, when he sold out and moved to Clearwater, MN. There he bought the shop from Mr. Whitney, where he had learned the trade. He was forced to retire in late 1945 due to ill health.
