"If music be the food of love, play on." Ahh, music. This, I can dig. I'm a big music fan; hardly surprising, as I grew up in a family of musically inclined people. I like all music, and by that I don't mean that I listen to alternative rock, rap, and country. I listen to everything, from opera, jazz, and classical to classic rock and hippie music to bluegrass. I listen to alternative rock and acid jazz and I even like techno.. I don't really like rap, country, or pop music all that much.

The Stand -- do yourself a favor and get the unabridged version
Rose Madder and Dolores Claiborne for the women -- I don't think men would enjoy these. (Don't bother with Gerald's Game, it wasn't that good.)
Hearts in Atlantis and Different Seasons -- very good collections of novellas
The Dark Tower Series has my recommendation!
The short stories are good, particularly in Nightmares and Dreamscapes
If you saw the movie Carrie, read the book too
The Green Mile series was excellent -- read it as a series, buy them one at a time
1984 was excellent
