Heart Matters Chapter Seven:

"Ginger!" He called after her, but it was too late.

"Trouble, little brother?" Hank came down the stairs to hear the end of the conversation.

"I’ll say." Jeff grumbled, searching the room for Aaron. "Where’s Aaron?"

"He wants to stay in your room and look at all your baseball trophies. He says he’s going to grow up and win twice as many."

Jeff couldn’t help but smile.

"Jeff, is everything alright?"

"Why wouldn’t it be?"

"I mean with you and Ginger." Hank clarified.

"Look, I haven’t seen the girl in four years, then she shows up and expects everything to be how it was then, but it’s not. Things change… people change. She’s not the same person she was then, I’m sure as hell not the same person I was. Why can’t things go back to how they were last week?" Jeff vented.

"Sometimes things can’t be the way you want them to be."

"I know."

"Jeff!" Aaron came running down the stairs.

"What’s up, slugger?" Jeff picked him up.

"Where did she go?" Aaron pointed to where Ginger has stood.

"I wish I knew." Jeff mumbled to himself before setting Aaron down again.

"Ginger I want to see you again." Jeff spoke quietly into the phone late that night.

"I know. But this just isn’t working. Maybe I should go back to Kansas."

"No." Jeff shook his head.

"Jeff, can you do something for me?"
