The Church was decorated with love and care.  Every flower in the right place, every nerve getting the best of everyone, every detail was perfect.

“So why did it have to be my brother marrying Sarah?”  Jeff pondered, looking at the decorated church, seconds before it was time for the ceremony begin.

Sarah made her way up the aisle, toward Hank, he future husband.

“Why did I ever agree to do this?  Couldn’t someone else have been his best man?” Jeff’s face was expressionless, but on the inside it was tearing up his heart.  He didn’t doubt that Hank and Sarah really did love each other, he just wished he didn’t have to watch them be married.  He was still hurt and nothing would ever change that.

“Deary beloved, we are gathered here on this joyous occasion before friends, family and God to see this man and this woman joined in holy matrimony.”  Father Dreher began.

~*~

“’Joyous occasion?’” Jeff wondered.  There was nothing joyous about it.  Sarah was getting married to another man, and that other man was his brother.  The worst part was he had to be the best man.

~*~

“If any man sees just cause why this man and this woman should not be joined in holy matrimony speak now or forever hold your peace.”

“She’s made her choice.  She’s marrying Hank.  Not me.  Get over it,” Jeff told himself, but he couldn’t. What was he going to do when he had to live in the same house as her?  Avoid her as much as possible, but that wasn’t the worst part of it.  He was at the wedding without a date.  He looked like some kind of freak.  But it wasn’t his fault his girl has been taken from him by his own brother.
