Lesson 1 - The Arabic Alphabet
The arabic
alphabet consists of 29 letters, each with its own
name and sound. Letters in the Arabic alphabet change
shape when they are connected with other letters to
form words, however this will be covered in a later
lesson. It is essential that you memorise
these letters along with their pronounciations
completely - not only will it make the rest of the
lessons very easy, but you will not be able
to continue to further lessons without at least being
able to recognise each letter. Below you will find
each letter with its name. To hear the pronounciation
of each letter, click on its name.
Some of the more difficult
letters contain a small pronounciation guide if you
scroll your mouse over the link to the letter's
sound. To hear each letter's sound just click on its
link and open the sound-file without saving it.
Hint: Try
memorising the alphabet only one line at a time.
Practice Sets
Below
you will find 3 practice sets. Each of
these links will open a new window which will contain
a table similar to the above table, however all the
letters will be jumbled, and their names will be
removed. Try and name each letter in the practice
sets 1 by 1 as best you can. If you do forget a what
the name of a letter is, then you can switch windows
and check out the letters name and its pronounciation
on this page.
