About the Site

This site is designed to teach people from a non-arabic speaking background how to read arabic, in particular Qur'anic arabic. Each of the lessons has been inspired by the IQRA series of arabic teaching books, as well as a variety of other publications. These lessons are online to provide easy access to those who wish to learn arabic, but may experience difficulty in accessing adequate material in their area.

Do I kneed any prior knowledge of Arabic to do these lessons?

No. These lessons are designed specifically for those people who have had little or no exposure to the arabic language whatsoever. However, a reasonable grasp of the English language is necessary to understand some of the lesson explanations.

How difficult will this be?

You will find that if you are willing to put a reasonable degree of effort into the lessons, and you practice the skills you have learnt on a regular basis, learning to read Arabic will be much easier than you had ever anticipated. This site will take you as far as is necessary to read Qur'anic Arabic, however beyond that, all that will be required will be regular practice to improve the speed at which you read.

Lesson Format

The course is split into a series of lessons starting with the most essential and basic concepts of Arabic such as vowels and the alphabet. Audio recordings of all arabic words in the site have been provided to help the student correct their pronounciation at all stages.
