Carlin Thornton-Karmer finds herself in the clutch of a remarkable struggle when she, along with a band of close friends and otherworldly allies, is called upon to help Mother Earth battle the Evil One, a cosmic psychic vampire who thrives on human-driven negative energy.   With the planet's very survival at stake,  Gaia is forced to ponder exterminating the human infestation of her realm that attracted the Evil One's interest.  But at what cost?

From communing with compassionate aliens to razor-edged rescue operations from a tainted modern-day Atlantis, from spiritual cleansing rituals to discovering the truth about the curse of orchestrated chaos to thwart human social development, from telepathic visualizations and clairvoyant dreams to fate-driven battles, Carlin's adventures are only just beginning.  Will she find true love and healing in the arms of a tall, exotic stranger from India? Will her awakening paranormal powers help her triumph over her wrenching encounter with the Evil One's "parasitic psychosexual powers"? Will she unravel the mystery of her recurrent sightings of an elusive white wolf?  Will she survive an arduous trek through the Sahara Desert and up the Nile River to the dizzying heights of the "Mountains of the Moon"?  Will the climatic battle between good and evil upon its summit spell the end of the human race? Find out. Read Evil Seed!

EVIL SEED BOOK EXCERPTS

ON ALIEN ENCOUNTERS: ...At that moment, a strange orifice appears on Bee's forhead in the location of the mythical third eye. It resembled a nautilus shell severed lengthwise. Carlin jumped back, like a monkey who had unwittingly disturbed a slumbering cobra. Bee continued its glittering dance of iridescent colors as it began to emit a low-pitched hum. Carlin cautiously moved a good four feet away. Fighting off a powerful urge to run like hell, she checked her retreat and waited.  Soon the shell's spiril pattern uncoiled, exposing an opaque center of brilliant turquoise blue. It was the exact color to the white wolf's penetrating eyes! Her mind raced wildly as a tidal wave of panic washed over her, taking with it her earlier sense of joyous wonderment...

ON EVIL INCARNATE: ...There they stood, evil incarnate and all manmade; the untouchable inner circle of Mother Earth's global elite; the duly consecrated Godfathers of every conceivable form of exploitation; the ultimate power brokers behind every imaginable event that has occurred and will occur.  How can it be that they remain so completely unknown to the public? Like their forefathers, this current generationof ultra-exclusive hereditary elite boasts a lineage whose roots predate recorded history by eons. Indeed, they rose to power as religious or military elite during that time when human consciousness initially emerged on a far, far away planet.  All-powerful and untouchable, they answered to no one, save the Evil One. For he alone commands the perpetuation of thier priviliged lives. It had been easy enough for this cosmic psychic vampire to handpick his underdogs. Humanity contains countless mutant specimens equipped with that requisite dose of indomitable greed genes...

WHEN LOVERS FIRST MEET: ...Carlin's gaze casually shifted to the third person--a princely looking man in his early fifties whose wavy, shoulder length black hair was just beginning to gray around the temples. His large almond shaped, deep brown eyes were fired with life, laughter, and keen intelligence. His flawless richly bronzed skin and distinctive facial features suggested an Asiatic influence--possibly from India's northern realm... How blithely, and with such benighted bliss, sweet Carlin fell into that infamously inescapable emotional torture chamber so cruelly mislabeled, "love at first sight!" Yes, the prankish gods had set a malicious trap with that which they knew to be her most vulnerable temptation--she who so very much preferred the heady challenge of romancing god-hammered exotic men!  Indeed, this unsuspecting sacrifical lamb was totally unprepared for the top-of-the-Richter scale, magnitude 10.0 earthquake that rocked her world to ints innermost core the very instant this man's penetrating eyes looked onto hers with a powerfully numbing force. Her breath was literally snatched away, her heart stpeed, her brain short-circuited, and her shamefully neglected groin convulsed wildly..."Oh no," she whimpered under her breath, as the shockingly raw impact of their explosive chemical magnetism hit home. She had never, but never, in her life felt such a decidedly cosmic tug. Never. It was undeniably an attraction forged by the cosmos. Resistance was futile. With just one glance, it was already far too late to obey her immediate instinct to run like hell! And she knew, that he knew, that she knew it! Oh lost!...

EVIL SEED
, Reviewed by Annette Gisby, Twisted Tales, July 27, 2002

A frantic phone call from a close friend puts Carlin Thornton-Kramer on the first step to an adventure of a lifefime. Two strange statues have been discovered at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon,m one three feet tall and the other a smaller replica.  The statues exert strange influences over all who come into contact with them, including Carlin. Already showing signs of psychic ability, her powers increase when anywhere near the statue. But what is it? Where is it from and how did it get here? The place where the statue is discovered predates human occupation of that section of land. Carlin starts having disturbing visions of war, terror and bloodshed; visions that seem to be of the future. But how can it be stopped? It seems that the cosmos is home to a psychic vampire who feeds on negative energy from humans, and lately, there has been a lot of it about, and things are going to get much worse. For Gaia, Mother Earth herself, wants to wipe out the human race...

This is a sweeping adventure of a book, taking the reader on a fantastic journey from the U.S., the Middle East, Africa and the cosmos itself. The descriptions are breathtaking with a wealth of well drawn characters, feisty heroines, murderous villains, all entwined in a story of adventure and romance. It deals with a lot of things, reincarnation, predestiny, psychic abilities, but all flows well within the central storyline. My only complaint is that sometimes the dialogue comes across as a bit stilted and unrealistic and anytime the British characters spoke, it was like a cliche. Things like, "My good man," and "Old Chap." Living in England, I have yet to hear anyone actually say that! It's an epic tale, so make sure to leave some time to savour it. A good read.

EVIL SEED, Reviewed by Meeta Chaitanya Bhatnagar, HindustanTimes.com, New Delhi, July 19, 2002

Does the earth need saving? Are we truly headed towards an abysmal darkness and annihilation of life ascertaining forces? If one were to go by the very fascinating speculation of the author, C.G.McGovern-Bowen, Gaia, or earth, would be seen as a truly valuable cosmic entity that must be saved from the forces of disaster, at all costs. Even if it means obliterating a huge mass from the human race. Evil Seed is a strikingly different read. Pacy and zany from the word go, this fast paced surreal adventure examines through its fictional authority, the validity of civilization on earth. Why should diminutive and vicious human beings be allowed to spread negative energy that plagues both Gaia and other inhabitants, the book questions. McGovern-Bowen draws from her protagonist, Carlin Thornton-Kramer along with a disparate yest motivated group of friends, including aliens and humans, takes it upon herself to save Earth from the sinister clutches of the cosmic villain, the Evil One. The Evil One, we are told, thrives on the villainy generated by a motley group of powerful and influential plunderers. These men have over the years played a key role as traitors and detractors to the Earth's progressive stridency. Gaia awakens to the fact that she must save herself and her progeny from the deteriorating and regressive breed of men who have over time plundered all her goodness and are now out to destroy her utterly! She hopes to move towards a fine plane of existence, which nurtures and nourishes a healthy, vast 'multiverse' and that reinstates her as the 'jewel' of the cosmos...

Carlin's fantastic journey is one that enables her to explore bother her inner aspirations and Gaia's retribution. She is able to reunite with her soul mate, is able to harness the power of her many dreams and connect with reality more ably, her telepathic prowess is enhanced and so is her intuitive wisdom. The stylistic accomplishment of Evil Seed lies in the fact that although it's theme and subject matter is surreal, its narrative and language is both contemporary and grounded. Evil Seed, almost in spite of what is espouses, is just like any other interesting thriller, replete with twists and turns and surprises and denouements. For fans of the X-Files or for those fascinated by the chimerical and elusive cult of the paranormal, this will prove to be an exciting phantasmagoria that promulgates the creed that, if we, humankind, continue to stay the way we are, Earth herself shall endure to have us reduced to mere ashes. The belief that all natural catastrophes are a manifestation of this very phenomenon is a creed not unknown to Eastern esoteric practice. Evil Seed takes this intriguing dogma a step further, and at least within the ambit of the book, makes it possible for Earth, to take reprisals.

Evil Seed: A Retrospective, April 24, 2002 (Dick, Petaluma, CA)
Author McGovern-Bowen speaks to us in many dimensions...from the heart and from the excitement of adventure, brought about by a well-written, cliff-hanging story, keeping us on the edge of our seats and a much deeper level of "purpose."

The multi-dimension of the author speaks to the many levels of interest and entertainment I thoroughly relate to and enjoy.

I read all the way up to the last 16 pages and put it down for a week and and half...the thought of this adventure and "feel good", meaning-of-life book ending was so disappointing to me...finally, I read the last pages and with regret, it's over; hopefully, not for long.

But, is it over? No, it's the beginning for many and the affirmation for others, like myself, who never tire of hearing the "story"... the "meaning of life"...our "reawakening"...our "mission."

McGovern-Bowen offers the wonderful blend of deep meaning and purpose with excitement and adventure. The first time I visited the Vatican, being the recovering Catholic that I am, I was overwhelmed with it all...I went into overload..I was imposing art over the deep religious experience..I then began to appreciate the experience on both levels and when I did I felt I received the absolute "most" of what was the message. McGovern-Bowen gave me truly a similar juxtaposition.

Oh, in the prologue I wondered if the...words and vocabulary would ever end and make a point...but, it didn't take long for it to have meaning.

One can't help but wonder if this advanced soul (meaning the author) was but "guided" throughout the book...the depth, the purity of thought, word and deed as it relates to the meaning of life..."love"...runs through so loud and clear.

Regardless, the blend of entertainment and reality (as I see reality) is perfect...well-balanced. A message was clearly delivered here...for one to miss it is a shame and yet, how could one fail to miss the message..."right human relations" and "love" is...all there is, according to my beliefs and echoed by some dear friends of mine.

And, speaking fo these dear friends...they (The Pleadians) wish to humbly offer to C.G.McGovern-Bowen their offer to collaborate with her in the continum of "the message"...yes, another book.

I wish to express my gratitude to the author for this book and her convictions and "guts" to deliver her message...it's provided meaning and purpose for us all.

Stare into the face of evil in Rypan, the psychic vampire from the cosmos bent on devouring humanity and destroying the planet, he will make your skin crawl. Evil Seed: A must-read sci-fi adventure! January 12, 2002 (a reader from Los Angeles, CA)

This exciting sci-fi adventure is premised on the nition that the accumulation of negative energy generated by self-serving human endeavors, eventually prompts Gaia, the earth personified as a goddess, to finally act. She seeks to destroy the human infestation on earth in order to save herself. Through Carlin, Evil Seed's protagonists, her close friends andother spiritual supporters, Gaia wages a surreal battle with the Evil One, Rypan, a psychic vampire who feeds on human-generated negative energy. This epic struggle is replete with ritual cleansing ceremonies, and telepathic visualizations that grip the reader in an exciting journey, while infusing in the reader a spirit of awe and need for action to change the course of human destruction. This fantastic tale is required reading for all who care about the planet.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Background Information
Born December 27, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, the author is the fourth child on eleven, and the eldest daughter of a Scotch/Irish-Catholic father and an "experimental" Protestant/Yankee Blue Blood mother. Education, integrity and work were major household themes. As were taking on parenting-like responsibilities at an early age, protecting younger siblings, and learning to share everything. Growing up in a large family taught the author a strong sense of fair play and standing up for what was right. Her New England farm years were pivotal in developing her abiding love for Mother Earth--and gardening!  Working her way through college (bachelor's and master's degrees) at odd jobs (donut slinger, watch repair clerk, doctor's office nursing assistant, assembly-line cog, grocery checker, etc.) taught her discipline, patience and persistence--and hermetic tendencies? Her advanced graduate school years at Syracuse University, New York, were critical in expanding her global view/appreciation of humanity's developmental context. She will remain forever driven by curiosity and all those pesky "why" questions about our world and the nature of extistence.

After pursuing a career as a university instructor, the author turned to creative writing. Drawing upon her admiration of Gaia's natural wonders and her geographer's viewpoint, she created EVIL SEED, her first novel.
