| History: The Commonwealth Council for Arts & Culture (CCAC), was created in 1980, as a Division of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, through an Executive Order, in an effort to provide arts programs for the community, promote and perpetuate the local folk/traditional arts and enhance opportunities for artists. Through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the CCAC facilitates a variety of annual and special arts and cultural programs. These programs include the Flame Tree Arts Festival, Cultural Heritage Month programs and exhibits, Island Artists Exhibit, Tinian and Rota Arts Festivals, Kantan Isla Concerts, All Schools Art Exhibit, as well as, in-school, after-school and summer arts workshops, evening arts workshops, public arts projects, artists in the schools programs, arts documentation, the visual/folk and perfoming artists registry, touring programs, programs for underserved segments of the community and many others. Last year the CCAC facilitated or aided in the facilitation of 103 community arts programs. The CCAC maintains offices on Saipan, Tinian and Rota, and the CNMI Gallery for Arts and Culture/Galleri'an Atte yan Kuttura/Imwal Peirighil Melau Me Kko on Saipan and the Vincent Fleming Memorial Gallery on Tinian. |

| CCAC Programs are generously supported through its partnership with the National Endowment for Arts (NEA). | "The First Birth Ceremony" by Maria Hunter is one of many peices on exhibit at the "1st Summer Art Exhibit" at the CNMI Gallery, Capitol Hill. The exhibit, coordinated by summer WIA staff features visual and folk artwork by resident artists. More work from the exhibit will be featured on this site in the coming days. The Exhibit will be open through the month of July. |
