My name is Avery and I am a white Pekingese boy. I am about 6 yrs. old and I live in Florida. In July 2002, my mom heard that 4 white Pekingese were dumped at a local shelter and were scheduled to be put down because they were aggressive. She rushed to the shelter and begged the animal control officers to allow her to adopt all 4 of us and they did! They told her if she could pick up the dogs she could have them. Well, she just prissed right back to our cage, grabbed us and swooped us up into her arms one at a time and marched out to her SUV. She came back and signed some papers and we zoomed off into the sunset. We growled and snapped at mom for a few days and tried to bite her if she touched us or tried to pick us up. After we realized she was not going to put us back into a cage or hurt us, we started to trust her. Our previous human had kept us in cages and bred us. I am still scared of strangers but as long as mom or dad hold me in their arms, I can feel safe and protected. Mom says it will take time and she has all the time in the world for me to heal and learn to trust. I do grumble and growl at her, but she knows that is just how I communicate and that I am not being a bad boy, just being verbal.
If you are a wonderful person who deserves a precious Pekingese baby like me to love and adore, please check out the rescue link below.
