M e      a t   t h e     s t a r t   . . .
=  my name is
Catherine, later realized to coincide with my chinese name.
=  i got this name when I was eleven, entering an anglican school in hong kong.
=  my original chinese name is
TIN SO HANG; My wonderful Mom gave it to me

=  My last name means "field", like
farmland

=  The second character in my name means pure, simple and
unornamented

=  The last character has the root meaning "jasper" on it's left.  So it stands for
jasper in that sense

=  Putting all of those last two together, my name stands for
"a simple, pure and unornamented jasper".
It contrasts with my sister's name, which actually means "elegants and decorative jasper".
It turns out that our style does fulfill our own names.  I am definitely not the person to go to for
advice or critique style and fashion.
But my sister's got very unique and fashionable styles when she dresses.
Yup, my Mommy's very poetic and creative!!

i came into this world about 21 years ago at 8:02pm on a hot summer evening, August 17 1981 in a concrete-built structure called St. Paul's Hospital, on the Hong Kong Island, a very crowded, busy, and wealthy city.

The Brat: = In an October afternoon when I was 8 years old, about 2:30pm, I was having my daily adventure session with my 2-year younger cousin Wikka.  We usually climbed on tables and set up chairs to play tricks in my grandma's hous.  But this time, I got an amazing idea, so amazing I broke my arm in half very badly because of it, yet I still can't explain where the idea came from. I tied a piece of rope to the frame of the windows, made a circle at the end of the rope and put both my by feet in it as I jump down from a table.
The rope is not long enough to reach the ground, but gravity's strong enough to take me to the ground.  I lost balance, and fell first on the joint of my arm.  My cousin told me later that I was unconscious for a few seconds.  And then, I realized I have broken my left arm.  It really hurt, but I didn't cry.  It was pretty serious though.  It took a 4-hour anaethesized surgery, 3 days of hospitalization, half a year with a cast on, and another half a year of physiotherapy to make my arm useful and healthy again.  I was always told by the docs how lucky I was to achieve 180 degree for my recovered arm, which means perfect recovery!!  Yup, that's me when I was a kid.  I was pretty much a brat, with pretty hi adrenaline to climb around like a little monkey!!
M e      R i g h T     N o w   . . .

People call me differnet names: "Kitty-Cat, Kit-Kat, So, ... & Yo!"
=   I like
tennis.  I like playing it, and watching it.  I like the speed in the world masters' games, good ground stroke rallies.   I like how it sounds, and how it looks too!

=  Particular, I admire Michael Chang quite a lot, for one thing very simple, his
endurance on the court.  He's asian; he does not have certain advantage others have.  But he has the flexibility and energy to run to get the shots.  He doesn't give up on it.

=  I started tennis late, so I don't have a wonderful foundation or natural talent.  But I remember that during my  two prep-school years playing tennis tournaments, I told myself to run like that too.  Though I lack certain things, I make up for it.  I ran to make the shots.  I don't give up on them.

=  Lately, I've gone back to swimming.  My breaststroke is better than my free-style.
=  Once in a while, I go jogging too.  Pretty much inspired by my good friend Loretta over the past three years!

And just started to skateboard for a little bit this summer, no tricks yet, more about riding safely on the U of T campus streets and roads.

=  I do play the piano.  I used to enjoy playing Bach Inventions a lot.  They take a lot of practice and simultaneous thinking to do well.  I had to manouver, say, my right hand to stand out for several bars, and then give in for the left hand to stand out in another phrase.  It's pretty fun to do once you get a hang of it.

=  Sometimes, I write melodies and lyrics too.   But not very often.  Only during times when I am very very inspired, usually during very emotional moments or periods in life.

=  Last summer, being at home in Hong Kong, having reconciliated with my Dad from a very broken relationship with him since childhood, my eyes were opened to see what an amazing person and father my Dad has been.  So I wrote him a song for Father's Day.  I prepared the accompaniment on the digital piano he bought me, and sang the song to him on the day of.  He was very touched and teared a bit.  I was a little nervous too!

=  I like the
colours, orange, blue, ocean-blue, sky-blue, baby-blue, peachy-pink, yellow-orange, orange-yellow, yellow-green, and lavender, sometimes.  Most of the time, I do like sky-blue and orange-yellow.

Yeah, I am not a person very good at making decisions. =  There are many colours before me.  I tend to see something very pretty about each of them in different combinations.  So it's very hard to pick one most favouriate colour.  Yet, most of the time, I'd rather put them together to make a nice combination than to exclude all except one.

=  I guess I am like that in choosing other things too.  On a menu in a restaurant, it's just such a headache having to pick one dish that's gonna be cool.  So once I found a good-tasting dish, not necessarily the best dish among all, I tend to stick with it and not bother to think too hard next time.

=   With people I do know, and quite comfortable with, I tend to talk more and be the cheesy foolish one.  With people that I am new to, I tend to be pretty quiet and reserve.  So I don't know if I am a quiet person or not.
I ...  = breathe not only to live, but also to sing, to swim, to relax and to jog!
= am scared of people who don't smile.                            = let my mind wander off a lot
= am learning to think more effectively                               = am learning to know what I prefer and make choices
=  still growing up, grasping how to manage my life and my time
=  am very easily affected by my emotional ups and downs.

=  love my family: my Mom, my Dad and my Sister!
=  ride the plane like the bus 'cause that's how I go home!
