Another Tournament In The Works
Posted: June 20, 2002 9:57 PM
Due to the great success of the first tournament and the requests of several foosers, there will be a 2nd Porter House of Foosball Tournament. There is no date set as of yet, but it will probably be in the beginning of August. If anybody has any preferences as to when it is, please e-mail Matt. It will once again be a two day event, feauring a doubles tournament and several different levels of singles competition. The first tournament had 24 foosers and a total of 55 in attendance over the two days. Look for both of these numbers to increase dramatically, as word has gotten out that foosball is awesome and that the Porterhouse is the place to be. More information will be released as it is determined.

Matt Plows Way Through Tournament
Posted: April 7, 2002 8:18 PM
As expected, Matt took home the Porterhouse Championship. But what wasn't expected was how easy it was for him. After the tournament, Matt said, "I expected to have a lot more competition. I thought Nard could possibly take me to a third game, but that game was not even close. I knew that if there was one person in the tournament that could beat me, it was Jake. I never expected to beat him in 5 out of 6 games." Matt pushed and snaked his way to an 8-1 record in the tournament. Jake finished 2nd as expected, but the two biggest surprises of the tournament were Andy and Lauren. Andy finshed 3rd, beating James, Ryan, Dave, and Nard. He did all of this with basically no offensive moves. Lauren came into the tournament from the amateur division and beat Ryan and Justin. The doubles tournament was held prior to the singles tournament, with teams being picked randomnly with the 15 people we had. Jake and Dave were paired up together and were obviously the favorites of the tournament, and they didn't dissapoint. Matt carried Paul into the championship past better teams such as Ryan and Andy, and James and Jason. The whole tournament was a great success with everyone having lots of fun.

Girls Dominate Day 1 of Tournament
Posted: April 6, 2002 3:14 PM
Day 1 of the tournament was full of surprises, as both of the day's winners were girls. Allyse wasn't even in the tournament to begin with. She was revealed as the mystery guest and won 3 straight games, including beating Pittman in the Rookie championship. The amateur division had a lot of good foosing with some exciting games. Lauren beat Phill in game 4 of the best of 5 championship, making her the second female champ of the day. The most controversial event of the day came from the nutcase that is Brian Fredo. After losing a semifinal game vs Phill, he absolutely snapped and punched Phill. I understand how one could be upset after losing a game, but this is simply ridiculous. Lauren and Phill will both be returning for the Experienced Tournament, and will try their luck against some real competition.

Matt's Ready for the Tournament
Posted: March 18, 2002 11:28 PM
Matt Porter, the heavy favorite coming into the tournament, is definately hot. Over the last two days, he has been simply unbeatable. On Sunday, he got a quick series in with Jake before he left for Maine, and Matt beat him 2-1 in convincing fashion. Then Matt figured he would give Dave a shot at the master. Matt laughed at this competition and took Dave a remarkable 12 games to 1. The next night, Nard and Matt played several games. Matt took all 3 series, winning a total of 9 games to 4. Matt is clearly at the top of his game and at just the right time. The tournament is rapidly apporaching and it doesn't look like there is anyone in the field capable of beating Matt Porter. Matt is currently experimenting with a semi-2-handed approach. This experiment has obviously had positive results, but he is still deciding whether or not he will use it in the tournament as it is not yet perfected. Either way, look for Matt to clean up this April.

Brackets for Porter House Tournament Released
Posted: March 16, 2002 7:29 PM
The brackets for the upcoming tournament have been revealed. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 6th with a likely start time of 4 PM. The location is, as always, the Porter House. There is a total of 26 entrants in this inaugural tournament, with contestants coming from as far away as Illinois. The foosers are split up into 3 divisions, the first of which is rookie. This will give several beginners a chance to learn the game, gain some confidence, and possibly make some noise in the amateur division. The amateur division is comprised mostly of avid foosers, used to playing on a Sportcraft-esque table. This gives them a chance to polish their skills and perhaps press their luck in the experienced bracket. The experienced bracket is an all-out, double-elimination division, in which the winner will be declared the Porter House Foosball Champion. Most of the entrants are diehard foosers, used to playing on a Tornado brand table. The tournament promises to be an extremely exciting and competitive event, where everyone can have some fun while simultaneously improving their foosball skills.

Foosers Vote Andy Ugliest Porter
Posted: March 12, 2002 6:20 PM
The votes are in and the results are as expected; Andy is the ugliest Porter. The 26 original entrants to the tournament were all required to submit their vote for the ugliest Porter. Of those 26, 12 of them felt that Andy was the ugliest. Matt, after being voted the ugliest Porter in the unofficial poll, finished in a close second with 10 votes. Nard and Dave tied for 3rd with 2 votes. Vicki was voted the best-looking Porter, this time receiving no votes. When told of the results, Andy claimed, "The poll is wrong," and refused further comment, obviously upset. Matt, relieved to finish 2nd, said, "It's about time people realized how ugly that freak is." Jake once again avoided involvement in the poll due to the fact that he is not a Porter.
