Eat your fruits and veggies, meats, and dairy products

To maintain a healthy physique.

            Mama was always right.

 

Remember the food pyramid – it’s vital to your survival.

Just think back to the days of school where teacher used her long pointer to highlight  

  each group. 

Teacher explained each pyramid block and used a stern thwack

 of the metal pointer to the tattered chart to drive home her point..

 (Was the chart that indescribable shade of brown when it was new?)

Teacher taught important food pyramid lessons. You weren’t asleep, were you?

The chart may predate you, but it’s still right.

After all, history is always right.

 

Read a book to feed your mind:

            A starved stray dog lurking around dumpsters

            Needing nourishment of any kind.

            Sore with age, but insistent on survival.

And no, the TV guide does not constitute as a book.

            The crossword puzzles in the back are for dessert:

                        They have no nutritional content.

 

Walk a mile every day. 

Allow me to give you a hint:

The distance from the bedroom to the car in the garage is not a mile.

It’s still not a mile even when you forget your briefcase in the upstairs bedroom

  and make two laps rather than the desired one.

 

Lastly, get plenty of sleep:

            Secret food for the soul,

            Healing time for the heart,

            Meditation time for the mind.

 

I suggest you follow my lesson in the reverse order it was given to you.

After all,

No one

Is immune

From needing

The occasional

Nap.
