"Inspired by the Phantom"

Step inside the golden doors
a magic place that holds my soul
pink rose petals are a velvet seat
statues dance in the air above
passion holds a tale of love
a gavel sounds
the dream begins
a mirror to a world beyond
the soft seduction of his song
betrayal, anger, grief and shame
and in my heart I speak his name
notes to fear, the toad is free
and yet he is not finished
the laughter echoes all around
and up into the starry night
but shadows listen secretly
a hand appears and he is there
a broken heart again betrayed
I share his pain
and in my heart I speak his name
down it falls
his punishment
six months pass
a party now
no merry scene
for joy is placed uneasily
and there he stands a top the stair
his fiendish, death-like, blood-red wear
he vanishes, magician's trick
his orders are to be obeyed
to the grave the violin calls
her mournful song, his fireballs
now the night, the trap, the hunt
he shall never let them win
the marksman fires
he never listens
the scent of gunpowder in the air
but fate will play a different game
the love song now
his ancient lust
her seducing innocence
they play with fire, she and he
a game where all may perish
the hood is thrown
the truth revealed
a desperate plea to save his dream
but she shows him to the world
and together they must flee
down, down again
the candle world
his bride tonight
or her lover's life
and then the kiss
the sweetest thrill
intoxicates his love-starved soul
he cannot keep her, he knows that now
and in my heart I speak his name
she returns his cherished gift
he speaks of what he feels
she leaves again, forever now
to the lacy veil he clings
a memory of her
and then to vanish once again
never to be found
he leaves his prison there behind
the brilliant light upon it shines
the all is dark
and in my heart I speak his name
the lights come up
and I must leave
my heart feels dead
sorrow drained its very life
and though I suffer
share his pain
here will I come many times again
for he has claimed my heart and soul
and through my bitter, salty tears
I speak the words he longs to hear
"I love you, Erik"
