Prologue

“I just wanna sleep, yo, for like a week.” Faith sighed and let out a relieved laugh, walking up behind Giles. She stared ahead into nothingness, where once stood a great town. She was filled with awe. How something so powerful could destroy something so huge. But also disgust, that something would want to.

She shook both of those feelings away and snapped back to reality. She heard Willows question directed towards Buffy and smiled.

“Yeah, you’re not the one and only chosen on any more, You just gotta live like a person, how’s that feel?”

He reply was asking Buffy, but she knew it applied to her too. What was she going to do? Everything was so different now. For the past 3 years her life had pretty much been one long boring routine. The same thing day in, day out.

Now everything that she was used to had been swallowed up into hell. Well, that wasn’t strictly true, but she’d be damned if she was going back to prison. Her life had been thrown into chaos over the last couple of weeks, now there was a new kind of chaos. Not dissimilar to that which she lived before, without order.

Shuddered at that thought. The thought that she might be slipping back into her old life. No, this was different. She had people around her.

She wouldn’t say they were friends, she wouldn’t say they cared for her yet, but she was on her way to gaining back their trust. After all she had done, killed a guy, tortured Giles, tormented Buffy and nearly killed Angel, she could not believe that they were even being civil towards her. But they were, and she wasn’t going to jinx it.

It wasn’t just Willow, Faith could feel them too. All over the world, new girls were being called to join them in their mission. Being awoken to fight the forces of darkness. Dawn was right, they’d have to find them, and recruit them into their world. They wouldn’t like it, she was sure. She hadn’t liked it at first, but it was their destiny.

And hers too. Just because they had won this time, didn’t mean they would again. But Faith had a feeling deep down that it was all going to work out. Things were going to be different now, better. As Faith stared out over the vast abyss, only vaguely aware of the people around her, she smiled to herself. This wasn’t the end. It was the beginning.
