Speyer Cathedral Founded by Conrad II in 1030 and remodelled at the end of the 11th century, the Speyer Cathedral, a basilica with four towers and two domes, is one of the main Romanesque monuments of the Holy Roman Empire. Its architectural structure strikes a perfect balance between eastern and western influences. The cathedral was added to the World Heritage list of Unesco in 1981 (which is where I got this text from, go and have a look.....). |
