On 21-23 February 2003 World Ten-Dance Championship took place in Hyatt Regency
Hotel located in downtown Vancouver. 29 couples took part in the event. Moscow
residents Marat Gimaev and Alina Bassiouk reconfirmed the title of
champions. Second place was taken by couple from Slovenia – Misa Cigoj and
Anastasia Novojilova. Misa is known for his skill in playing with audience
and eccentricity. Canadian couple Christian Millette Claudia and
Primeau-Sauve took sixth place.
In Snowball Classic Latin category was won by Latin world champions Franco
Formica and Oksana Nikiforova competing for Germany.
Winners in Standard - Brian Eriksen Marianne Eihilt.
Misa and Nastia were second in both
categories.
There is local prize of best British Columbia couple. In Adult
Latin category it was granted to Dmitry and Katie Ilyushenov, in
Adult Standard – to Joel Marasigan and Clara Shih, in both Youth programs –
to Vadim Garbuzov amd Nadiya Dyatlova. On the concluding show of nine best
Standard couples with mixed partnership Misa Cegoj again excited the public
by somewhat challenging dance with partner of Ukrainian participant Dmitro
Vlokh. Brian Eriksen tried to smooth the confusion on the fly. Jim Fraser,
chairman of Canadian Dance Federation, congratulated everybody with vote in
favor of winter Olympics in Vancouver and expressed the hope of final
inclusion of Dance Sport into summer Olympics in 2008.
