JAMES ANDERSON AMICK
Pg 2
Frank Rogers who operated a store at Danese, was raised by Anderson and then Andersons son Charles after Andersons death.  Frank told the story of how a swarm of honey bees came out of one of Andersons hives and settled high in the top of a tree.  Some one remarked to him, Anse, I guess that will be one swarm that you wont get.  Anderson turned and went in the house and brought out his muzzle loading rifle and a bed sheet.  Anderson spread the sheet on the ground under the tree.  He then, on his second try, shot the limb off on which the bees were resting and the limb and bees came crashing to the ground and onto the bed sheet.

Around 1890, he contributed money to help start what is now the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV.  The money he contributed was probably from the sale of land (mostly mineral rights) that he had bought over the years.

Andersons sons Wallace and Albert both became medical doctors.  Alberts decision to enter medical school came about after he got into a fight with a co-worker on a highway construction crew.  Albert hit the other young man in the head with a rock and almost killed him. They attended medical school in Kentucky.

He died on January 2, 1915 at his home while reading the newspaper.  The cause of death was probably a heart attack.  He had been sick for about a week or so prior.
