DRIVING MISS JANEWAY

"Why do you get to drive?" Kathryn complained as she got into the car beside Chakotay.

"It's my holodeck time."

"It's Tom's program. I could drive."

"I invited you. I drive."

"Fine," Kathryn said with a mock pout. "Tom said it's more fun with the top down."

"I'm looking for the switch," he said. "Ah! Found it!" With a low hum and a slight vibration the top slowly retracted while Kathryn drummed her fingers on the armrest. "Happy now?" he asked.

With a roll of her eyes she leaned well into his space to inspect the various gages and switches on the dash, her hair tickling his nose. She peeked through the steering wheel at the pedals then fingered the gear stick as she finally settled back in her seat. Chakotay gave her a look that plainly asked, 'Are you finished?'.

"Do you even know how to do this?" she asked with lowered brows.

He gripped the steering wheel and scanned the dash again. "It looks simple enough."

Kathryn stared at him. "You've never actually driven an automobile, have you?"

"How hard can it be? I can pilot a starship." He did a double-take of the expression on her face then quickly lifted a forefinger. "No cracks about my piloting skills."

With another eye roll, Kathryn turned toward the door and whispered a curse when it took her a moment to get it open. When she started to get out, Chakotay pulled her back in with one hand while reaching across her to close the door with the other.

"Computer, end pro.." Kathryn began but found her words cut off when Chakotay executed a sneak attack and kissed her quite thoroughly.

"Now," he said as he leaned back and licked his lower lip. "Are you going to behave yourself and enjoy the ride?"

She contemplated for a moment. "No, and yes."

Chakotay looked at her with mild confusion.

"No, I will not behave," Kathryn said as she reached out to sink her fingers into his hair and tug him back toward her. Her grin was wicked, her eyes agleam. "And yes, I fully intend to enjoy the ride."

Chakotay's dimples appeared and he waggled his brows. "Guess that means I'll be driving after all."
