Air-Mech-Strike (AMS) Background
The U.S. Army has the largest helicopter fleet in the world yet with no organized rotary-wing Air-Mech-Strike capability.
For example:
-
- A British “Airmobile” (Airmechanized) brigade, conducted an air-mech strike by helicopters over Serbian minefields in Kosovo following the air campaign in July 1999, and established their sector in only 24 hours. See photos on the next slide.
-
- The U.S. Army having no such organized capability took several days to fully occupy its sector.
