Welcome Aboard! I hope you Enjoy your visit.

It's hard to believe it has been over 40 years since the Bluegill and I parted company. Some things remain in my memory like they occurred yesterday. Others seem to have vanished in the fog of time. For the most part, the memories that remain are the good ones. I only spent three years on the Bluegill, but I made real friends during that time..people I haven't seen or heard from since leaving the Bluegill..but people I would still refer to today not only as shipmates, but as friends.

This is a more recent picture of the Bluegill. She was sunk off the coast of Hawaii and was being used as a diving platform. She was later raised and escorted out to deep sea under full military honor where she was once again released to the ocean depth. This image was created by Ed Robinson.

Diving platform

Ed Robinson has seen the Bluegill many times since she was sunk. If you would like to see more of his photography then stop by at Mauiscuba.com.  In addition to the beautiful underwater photographs available at this site, you will also find an interesting article about the Bluegill.

I wanted to gather up all of my Navy days photos and show some of the better ones here. Over 30 years though, I seem to have misplaced quite a few of these memories. However, I have found some. I will continue tearing the house apart until I either give up or find this stuff!

Sunset Sailing

Here we are in the Pacific steaming toward the Philippine Islands. I'm guessing this picture was taken in 1965. The photograph really didn't capture the true colors of the sunset.

Dolphins

The Dolphins, emblem of the US Navy Submarine Service, is worn with great pride by those who serve aboard submarines.

Here is one of the last known series of photographs ever taken of the USS Bluegill. It is a panorama taken by David Freedman, the Chief Engineer on the USS Brunswick at  the time of the raising of the Bluegill for her trip to her final resting place in deep water.

Here are some really great submarine sites I have enjoyed.
