A group of massive alien life-forms, typically 2000 feet high. All that is known of their origins is that they are born of dead galaxies. They tour the universe, conducting experiments on the life-forms they encounter, usually creating new races of Eternals and Deviants. As a safeguard against their creations, they made the Brethren from bacteria, but ultimately released them from their service. Experiments upon the Skrulls produced a race of shape-shifting Deviants who ultimately overran the original Skrulls, and exterminated them. So far, there are no known Skrull Eternals. The Kree have one surviving Eternal, Ultimus. No other Kree Eternals or Deviants are known to exist. Theories as to the Celestials' purpose include that they are a manifestation of Eternity itself, and are sent out to gather knowledge and understanding for him. Kubik and Kosmos, two living Cosmic Cubes, believe this to be a sound theory. It is known that the Celestials visit planets in 4 hosts. The purpose of their visit is determined by the leader of their expedition party. Hence, Arishem most often leads the 4th Hosts, which judge the fitness of a planet to survive. Even the Odinsword cannot slay a Celestial, though it can temporarily remove their limbs. Only "the Weapon" has the power to utterly kill a Celestial. The Celestials have no apparent connection to Galactus. Contrary to some accounts, the Celestials have no homeworld.

So far known Celestials include: Arishem the Judge, Ashema the Listener, the Dreaming Celestial, Eson the Searcher, Exitar the Executioner, Gammenon the Gatherer, Hargen the Measurer, Jemiah the Analyzer, Nezarr the Calculator, the One Above All, Oneg the Prober, the Red Celestial, Scathan the Approver, Tefral the Surveyor, and Ziran the Tester. -Additional Celestials may be seen in Eternals (v.1)#18, X-Factor#48-50, Thor#423-424, 448-450, Fantastic Four Annual#26, Blackwulf#6, and X-51#12
