About The Author

I would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to visit my latest creation:  this web site.

I must admit that, while I truly enjoy exploring the world of computer graphics, artistically speaking, I still
prefer the feel of a stylus in my hand. ;)

(Much thanx goes to PPO, the proprietor of The Plantation poetry forum for all her help in the area of HTML)

I can't remember how old I was when I began exploring my artistic ability.   It seems I have always had the
desire to and loved to draw.   My parents were never able to afford "art" lessons for me, so I practiced
on my own...   observing my surroundings with a view to recreating them later on paper.

(Have you ever noticed, in the Spring, how many different shades of green are present in one tree. *whew*)

While I have sold sketches and oil paintings, my first creations were laughable.   In fact, the kids in my
fourth grade class used to make fun of my horses with lips and tell me to "just give it up."

After my own sons started to school, I chose to use my gift to benefit them and their teachers.   I would
read to the class every Friday afternoon, giving the teacher a much appreciated break.   Afterward, I handed
out copies of an illustration (sketched from whatever story I had chosen) for them to color, taking advantage of every
opportunity to encourage them to pursue art as a career if they liked to draw.

On two occasions, the teacher asked me to come up and talk to the kids specifically about art. After a
brief discussion, I showed them my portfolio and answered their questions.   But, before I left, I showed them
some samples of my early work and asked them, "Now, what would you say to the person who drew
these pictures?"

Of course, they laughed.   One kid even said they belonged in a "horror movie."   Yet, they were all in
agreement that the person who drew them should pursue anything BUT a career in the art field?

I got a real kick out of their facial expressions when I told them the pictures were drawn by me when I was
their age.   Then, I explained that they should never, ever, make fun of anyone else's work because they just
might be discouraging an artist in the making.

My love of writing began when I was 11 years old, with the first story I ever wrote:   "A Flash Of Light."
I didn't start writing poetry until the man I was engaged to, at age 18, sent me a love poem.   It was only a
few words, but I was so touched by it that I decided to write one for him.   I've been writing them ever since.

I didn't actually write any more stories until my oldest son started middle school.   While I did read to my
kids when they were small, they usually said, "Tell me a story, Mom."

(That phrase inspired me to write them a song bearing that title.   See the page entitled "Legacy," for the lyrics,
along with some other pieces I wrote especially for them. :)

   And so I would.

Once all of these stories (that I made up out of the far corners of my imaginative mind) started to accumulate,
I decided it might be wise to document some of the ideas so I wouldn't forget them.

To date, only three short stories and a single novel   (a science fiction story which prompted my writing "Tribute
To A Dying Breed"
and "Tribute To Engine 60" after researching the professions of two of my main characters)   have made
their way to the Library of Congress.

The others (15 or so) still remain in outline form.

Where my poetry is concerned, I took a lesson from the composer I most admire, John Denver, and,
therefore, tend to write about what I think, feel, and care about the most.   It is also a means of expressing
my firm belief that the world can be changed for the better one person at a time - that person being ourselves.

Writing is wonderful therapy, and its also the very best way I have found to "work through" painful or extremely
difficult situations that affect my life.

It is my sincerest wish that you find a tidbit of encouragement while you are visiting here.   Or, at the very
least, I hope you leave here with a smile.

The greatest compliment I have ever received came from a man I met while I was in the hospital.   He told me
that my work had "heart."

Here and now, I want to thank you for allowing me to touch yours with mine.
