Empire Steam Engine | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Here is a picture of as an old electric model steam engine manufactured by the Empire Metal Ware Corp. in Two Rivers Wis. as I recieved it . As you can see it needs some attention and the whistle, power cord & filler/relief valve are missing.
From this view you can see the nickel plating on the boiler shows wear, the top for the filler plug is bent , the water sight glass & fittings have been glued, the whistle and almost all of the paint on the base is missing.
This view also shows the origional condition of this unique piece.
No its not 'U.L.' approved !
But that's what sets it apart from todays toys.
Here is a pic of my curent restoration. I've chosen not to 'strip & paint' that can always be done later. Instead I decided just to do what was necessary to get it functioning again ! I fabricated a missing piston part, whistle top and water fill/pressure safety valve, repaired the water sight glasss works(that required special effort to retain the origional looks) and fabricated gaskets for the engine to boiler necessary to hold steam pressure.
What a treat to see this wonderful little motor 'come alive' and breathe steam again!!
