I have done over 30 years of research of Chattooga County Civil War history and have written two volumes of Innocence and Courage, A Study of Chattooga County Civil War History. Your site opens up additional research for volume 3 in progress. Could I have permission to use the Chattooga related info for our next volume. The work is for the SCV Camp 507. A great site and a side note, I coached an ancestor of Andrews in 1985. His family still lives in the Cove. Thank you for your effort in this matter. Jim Day

Great site. While compiling records for my own site i read on here of the 3rd Confederate's fight at Lane's Bridge and Binnaker's bridge. Im glad you knew of it cuz i was about to credit another unit with the fight there. I had read accounts of federals at binnaker's bridge who mentioned Reb cav at Binnaker's bridge but finally now i have confirmed it. Once again thanks and keep up the good work.

I will do my best. I have a picture of my great-grandfather, Cavlin Jones Andrews, who was in the 3rd Confederate Cavalry from time to time. But I do not have a picture of him in uniform. If you wish, I will try and contact some of the descendants of others who were in the 3rd. David Latham wrote: The North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources operates the Bentonville Battleground as one of 22 state historic sites in North Carolina. Over the last 6 months we have been renovating the visitor center at the site to provide more office space for the staff, enlarge the gift shop, and provide restrooms and other facilities for the handicapped. The renovations also had an impact on the exhibit area of the visitor center and we are currently in the process of designing new exhibits for the facility. A portion of the new exhibits will feature an area with the working title "Faces of War." We hope to feature photographs of about 60 soldiers of all ranks who fought at Bentonville in March of 1865. We hope that every state that had a unit at Bentonville will be represented. We are searching for photographs of soldiers in uniform who are known to have fought at Bentonville. Your name has been listed on the web as someone who might help us locate information on a specific unit. The unit that fought at Bentonville that you might help us with is the 3d Confederate Cavalry. Please let me know if you can help us out on this project. I look forward to hearing from you. If you want more information on Bentonville, we have an outstanding web site at www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/hs/bentonvi/bentonvi.htm. Thank you very much for your help. I realize that your ancestor lived later in time, but they may still have known each other through other family members. Just an observation. Thanks, Candy Marko

Comments:
My Mom's grandparents, Jack Leathan Smith(TN) and Mathilda Angeline Andrews(NC) were confederates. Married after the war, had children in Greensboro,Alabama, then moved to AR in 1881. Jack was Scot and Cherokee, or something like that, and Ms. Andrews was said to be Dutch. I don't know where Jack joined the rebel forces,TN, NC, orAlabama, but most likely one of those three. Brenda.
