Bottom's Dream Arts

Bottom's Dream Arts, Inc. is a Field Sponsored Artist Theatre and an Associate Member of The Alliance of Resident Theaters of New York.  The company is dedicated to producing classical theatre. Our mission is to explore how varying cultures are shaped by those of the past, and to use classical text to illuminate the contemporary human condition and break down barriers to text. Bottom's Dream Arts brings together artists from music, dance and the visual arts to develop a shared emotional and design concept for each production. The company provides the opportunity for all artists to explore classical texts and themes through the creative process.

Bottom's Dream Arts is: Rachel Russell (Artistic Director) is the founder of BDA and most recently played Titania/Hippolyta in our production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. She had also appeared as Hermione in BDA's production of A Winter's Tale and as Kate in BDA's The Taming of the Shrew.  Rachel directed BDA's premier production of The Tempest.  New York credits include: Celia in As You Like It, First Witch/Murderer in Macbeth; Mariana in Measure for Measure (Frog & Peach Theater Company); and Silvius in As You Like It (Looking Glass Theater). Rachel also orginated the title role in Candy Starr for the Vineyard Theater and Musical Theatre Works. Rachel has a BA in Theater and Literature from Sarah Lawrence College and also studied in London with the British American Drama Academy under Fiona Shaw. Janna Rosenkranz (Managing Director) last appeared as Starveling/Peaseblossom in BDA's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and has also been seen as Portia in our Julius Caesar and Bianca in our The Taming of the Shrew. Other credits include: Izzy in Crossing Delancey; Phebe in As You Like It; Artie in Eleemosynary; Maria in The School for Scandal; Dorine in Tartuffe; Elise in The Miser and Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Janna holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College.
