The Parish of Portland, on Jamaica's northeast coast is noted for it's lush tropical beauty and eco-tourism activities. Against a backdrop of tall misty blue mountains and verdant green hills, spectacular cliffs and meandering rivers meet the turquoise sea in a series of small picturesque coves.
Port Antonio, the parish capitol, has long been a meeting place for the worlds most famous people, who enjoy its old world charm and laid back atmosphere. It is popular with film makers because of its vast variety of tropical scenery and architecture styles. The town was a British naval stronghold in the 18th century and the remains of the old Fort George still dominate the Titchfield peninsula, while fine examples of Georgian Architecture can be seen in the main square.
Tourism began here in the middle of the last century, when the banana trade brought untold wealth and visitors traveled here on sailing ships to enjoy the hospitality of Jamaica's first resort town.
To the east of town, the Blue Lagoon attracts Jamaicans and tourist alike for swimming and diving in the uncannily blue water. Take a raft trip around the Lagoon with one of the local guides. or join the twice weekly
Blue Lagoon Celebrity Voyage and Beach Party.
